OSCAR vs ResScan

Post by Ambassador » Tue Feb 23, 2021 2:36 pm

Hello all. New CPAP user here just inside of a week. I'm interested in seeing some more detailed sleep data via the SD Card output and I see there is a mix of both OSCAR and ResScan use on this forum. Is there a reason people use one over the other and is there an advantage in using ResScan if you use a Resmed machine?

Thanks!

OSCAR is much easier to manage and it's faster as well. Plus it is available in multiple operating system versions.

ResScan is big, bulky and slow and only available in Windows only.

There's nothing stopping you from installing and trying both if you have Windows and seeing which you like the best.
I have both on my computer but my go to for fast quick evaluations is OSCAR. It actually does a lot more than ResScan.

You can get an idea what ResScan looks like here

And what OSCAR offers

Should also be mentioned that running OSCAR is unquestionably legal.

Downloading and running ResScan, without being an authorized ResMed clinical user, is a grey area, at best.

Yeah, well there is that little bump but actually ResMed is okay with patients having and using ResScan as long as their doctor writes an order for it. Fat chance of that happening though.
Many years ago when I first started cpap therapy ResScan and Encore Pro were openly sold at cpap online websites like cpap.com and they didn't require a RX either.
For $100 you could get either quite easily. It was later that someone decided we were too stupid to have it and use it and they never really told us why...just one day neither was available for sale. Poof they were gone.

But even now a DME will give ResScan to a ResMed user if the user will supply a written order from their doctor....and it doesn't have to say anything about the doctor being involved. All is needed is "give Joe Blow ResScan"..signed...doc so and so.

Thanks for the clarification. I see there is a sign up you can fill out to download ResScan but I'm assuming this is intended for physicians or approved parties only. I just popped an SD card in my machine today. I'll give it a few days and then take a look.

If you want ResScan go here and register at the forum and then log in....then you can see the instructions for how to get ResScan that don't involve the sign in thing at ResMed. It's in a hidden forum section that you can't see unless you log in.
