"No pin-the-tail-on-the-nose mirror games" -- great description! And you're right, many of us have the fervor of converts. Re facial oil: alcohol wipes seem to do the trick for me.
And if alcohol is insufficient (as it was for me), https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1.

After that, if your skin still wins the battle, tape as in https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1.

I totally under elsueno's point, and I do see the nightly rigmarole as a downside, but depending on your situation it might be the best option you have. I've gotten to the point that it happens fast, and even conditions my brain that it is time to sleep. I'm also (knocks wood feverishly) at a point where I rarely have any leak at all, and certainly no all-out failures that force me to do something about it.

Anything related to treating OSA is going to be compromises ... you have to figure out which make sense for you.

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
