Kathy,

That is so good. You deserve it that's for sure.

Would you mind explaining me what those initials by the numbers in your first post mean.

Where did you get them. Off a machine card?? (I just found out some machines can have card but I thought only doctors could read this

I just saw on a sleep center site that the tens unit is something used for PLMD and reducing jerks if applied for 15 to 30 minutes before bed. I was just diagnosed with that and included a request for a prescription in a letter I sent doctor but I don't know if he will. He had given me requip but so far, I am afraid to take it. But maybe that might help you with your leg movements to get better sleep or if you already tried it, let me know if it helped any.

Thanks to all for your too kind words, the well-wishes, and for dancing and celebrating with me.

Bookworm, no pork chops yet. When my tag line changes, you'll know dinner is on!

JohnMudie, your signature line is so right on! I started this whole cpap journey a year and a half ago, and kept at it with the insistence and encouragement of folks here. I really didn't think I would ever experience the "want to" that some others spoke of. Only recently can I say I look forward to putting my mask on.

SleepyJane, I use a ResMed AutoSet Spirit and every morning I check the screen and get my basic numbers for my Apnea Index and Apnea Hypopnea Index, etc. Gives me an idea if there's any obvious problems. I have the software that I download directly into my computer (no card or reader) occassionally just to look for trends.

Again, thanks to my "support group" - you're much cheaper than therapy!

Kathy

This sure is encouraging. I thought most of the "vets" all got 8 or 9 hrs of sleep, in fact some nights when I'm snatching that mask off, I think of most of you blissfully snoozing and think something must be wrong with me. I do have the central apnea prob, no obstructives, but maybe if I keep this thing on it will come around. I'm assuming every hr I use it, that will enrich my oxygen supply to my brain. I think I got about 45 mins this afternoon after work, but it's such a "dreamstate" that I'm not sure.

And, a lot more effective!

Congratulations, Kathy.

On rare occasions, I'll get eight. Not sure, I've ever gotten nine. Sometimes, after five hours, aerophagia gets the best of me and I know it's time to get up. Still, sleep for me is a lot better than pre-xPAP.

Obstructive vs Central Apnea

Post by kteague » Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:41 pm

Bob the Bluegrass Fan,

In answer to your question, I have obstructive sleep apnea. On some of my sleep studies I had a couple centrals, but I've read here that is not unusual. What I did find interesting on my titration study is I had no centrals till they reached a pressure of 7 then I had one, and two at 8, three at 9. I have to wonder since they increased with the pressure how many I'm having with my pressure usually around 11 these days. Probably still insignificant. Will be back at the sleep lab for a couple nights in the coming weeks, so maybe that will answer my question. Docs want one study with no cpap or PLMD meds to get a current baseline, another with machine, and also the nap test once the movements are controlled enough on the meds. I'd say after all that I should turn into Sleeping Beauty. Hope you find answers for your specific situation.
Kathy

Do let us know the answer to that, Kathy. Expecially since some folks have indicated that pressure-induced centrals often subside after one gets used to xPAP therapy.

Bill
