No need to be snooty and condescending, Den...unless that's just your personality. You really have no idea who I am or what I have or understand. For YOU, it's working. For our "Guest", with a ResMed Vantage, no software and an AHI of 5.0 (or more)......and who STILL doesn't understand.....it may take awhile longer.

Relationship of titration pressure and 95% pressure level
Well, THAT'S true! But, you SAID that you had a ResMed apap machine....which kind of narrows it down to one or two models....the S8 Vantage being the newest.Anonymous wrote:No need to be snooty and condescending, Den...unless that's just your personality. And, if you go back and read my responses, I believe you'll agree that I was trying to be helpful.
What threw me (or made me suspicious) was when you said that if a titration was 10 and their machine was set to 8 - 12....whether the 90-95 percentile would have a relationship to the titration number (paraphrasing)....."give or take a couple of points".
Under that scenario, a person's 90 - 95 percentile would ALWAYS be within 2 points (10 being within 2 points of the top and bottom) of the titrated number.
I didn't make up the 90 - 95% rules.....the pressure at which the machine reaches 90 or 95 percent (including all of the pressures below that number) is what it reports as the 90 or 95 percent figure. If a person spent the vast majority of the night at 8 and only a few percentages at the other levels, but a (very small) percentage of the top pressure (12) put it into the 90 or 95 percentile, then the machine would report that 12 was the 95% pressure.
Is there any relationship to ones titration pressure and the pressure that a resmed apap machine displays on it's readout?(the 95% pressure). Would one expect those two numbers to be reasonably close?
I had already answered this "easy question" and you seemed to ignore it.....meaning this was a "trick" question by somebody who already knew the answer or you didn't like MY answer.....and were fishing for an answer that you wanted to fit your beliefs.I would think this to be an easy question to answer....someone? A person is given a titration number of say 10. They set their apap on a level of 8-12. The 90or 95% readings should indicate a relationship between the titration number and the apap 90-95% number...give or take a couple of points.
Best wishes,

Thanks for the help you offered, Den...I appreciate it. Regardless of what you think I found this thread informative and that's really what this board is about...I think.
I have a resmed spirit autoset with humidifier. I had been setting my machine so the top pressure was right at my 95% level. I now realize I probably need to set my pressure so the lower number is closer to my 95% level and my top number is two or three above my 95% level. I hope this will improve my numbers. I would like to get some software but I will have to figure out how to buy it from australia.

Track,
If those were the actual numbers you stated earlier, the (kind of) "rule of thumb" with hypopneas (I believe you stated yours were running about 4.0 and the apneas were about 1.0) is that increasing the bottom pressure will help lower that number.
If you snore, it's going to drive up your pressure. (regardless of whether they precede a hypopnea or apnea)
If you're sensitive to pressure changes, either use single pressure or narrow the range down to what preempts MOST of the events.
Titrated pressures MAY or MAY NOT be close.....but I believe that they need to be proven wrong before changing. Just because I did it, didn't make it right.....but mine didn't sound logical to begin with......try getting to sleep with a pressure of 18 sometime.
A few hours of lousy sleep in a lab....all wired up.....can't always be accurate.
Best wishes,

Also Resmed scores events differently. So I think getting a AHI under 1 with Resmed is not easy to do, all brands are different in how they react. Jim

AND, that's the .wav file that plays when all of my computers start up (instead of that stupid Microsoft default one).
When my e-mail comes in it's "Go ahead....make my day"
