Need help with airtouch f20 mask fit

Post by ZeldaHubert » Fri Jan 08, 2021 8:59 pm

Hi all,

I am pretty new to this and am having trouble fitting my mask. It is a full face airtouch f20. Last month (my first month), the tech tried to give me a small and it felt extremely constricting. It smashed the sides of my nose in making it hard to breathe and the bottom ends on my bottom lip. I asked for a medium and he seemed skeptical but gave it to me.

The medium seemed to be too big as I had a lot of leaks and had to tighten the mask so much that I got headaches in order to prevent leaks. Today I went to get my monthly replacement and asked for the small. Now I have it and it is the same issues as before- pressing my nostrils in so I can’t get enough air and not reaching low enough to cover my full bottom lip.

I think I need like a small and a half, or at a minimum more width in the nose area.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to modify one of these masks to make them fit an in between size? Thank you!

Thank you- I have watched quite a few videos from searching online but they all seem to be reviews rather than addressing problems.

Well, that's not going to happen, so move on:

1. You don't have to be stuck with one model of FFM. Look at some of the models here - https://www.cpap.com/plp/full-face-cpap ... 0yNjUmaT0x . Sort the list by New Products and then sort it by Most Popular. Read some of the reviews on the ones that seem most appealing to you.

2. There are some very good instructions for fitting and adjusting the F20 AirTouch at this link - https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/v ... a&fr=yfp-t (The link LSAT provided was for the AirFit.) From what you have written, it sounds like one of your problems is adjusting the mask too tightly.

Please stick to this thread when additional questions arise.

Welcome!

I have been using the AirTouch F20 foam mask for some time now with great success.
Watch the videos for fit. Try not to tighten too much. It actually causes more problems. Once you get the fit right, hopefully it will work well for you. In my case I rarely get any leaks, and as a bonus, most nights my AHIs are 0.0!

My only real downside to this mask is that at some point the foam will crack at the top of the nose area. At that point it leaks. So far, I can often get about 2 months before that happens. It lasts longer if I don't over tighten it.

I too was having problems with severe leakage with several ResMed masks. I kept trying new ones and when I was on the AirTouch F30 medium, I finally went looking for fit videos as recommended by the wonderful members on this site. Like you, most videos I found were reviews but I did pick up one bit of info that made all the difference and that was to use some facial cleansing wipes prior to placing the mask on one's face. I had been cleaning with soap and water, but I guess that was not enough - the generic "sensitive cleansing towelettes" that I bought in the makeup dept of my grocery store made all the difference between leaks and no leaks!

I also picked up some hand sanitizing wipes with benzalkonium chloride (found everywhere now due to COVID) to wipe out the mask, tube ports, and humidifier water tray every morning based on a tip from one of those videos. Now that I have things clean and have reduced/eliminated the leaks, I am working on finding the right pressures for therapy.

Just wondering if you found a solution? I’m having same issue—small is too small, medium too big. There’s a huge difference between the sizes too. I’ve been using a medium but am getting leaks. Also have used Airfit Med but get red marks on face. Liners are comfortable but get more leaks. Ugh. Just curious if you found a solution?

we'll likely never know as the original poster hasn't been back in over two years.
