Do I need to change pressure for a different mask?

Hi everyone

I use a Philips AutoCPAP with a dreamwear nasal gel pillow mask. The titration in the lab was done using the same nasal pillows. The "Mask Type" setting on the machine is set to "2". I borrowed the Resmed Full Face F20 AirTouch mask and want to try it for a few days. Do I need to change the pressure settings for this new mask? Can just swap masks without effect to my therapy?

No need to change anything.
The respironics mask setting relates to the inside volume of the mask, and is only used for reporting, not therapy.
And the difference is very slight--not enough to matter.
It only refers to numbers on Respironics brand masks--mainly to fool you into thinking you need THEIR mask.
But we are all smarter than that.

Technically Respironics says that when we are using a non Respironics mask that we should select 0 or off for the mask type (which is actually a resistance setting) in the menu.
In real life it's not a critical setting. You can make the change and I am betting you won't see or feel any difference in anything.
I have done that experiment...tried all the settings including off with my mask and nothing changed anywhere even in how it felt to me.

I just recently tried out a Respironics Bi-Pap ASV.

The comments below are based upon “MY Experience with a Philips device.

I had to change the mask setting to two (2) in order for it to work correctly (for me) with my ResMed P10 nasal pillows.

Philips does not provide any information about which mask setting to use for non-Philips masks and pillows. I had to research on my own and came across a couple of websites and YouTube videos that said to use number two (2) for my MASK SETTING to match my Resmed P10 nasal pillows.

You should go ahead and experiment and change the MASK settings to what best feels good to you… It does not take long… And you could accomplish all of this in under 5-10 minutes.

I am not at my computer right now (sending from phone) but Pugsy can send you a link to the clinician operator guide for your machine… You can order it via email… And that guide will explain the settings for the different mask settings for Philips mask. You can use that as a starting point.

The setting of 2 mentioned by OP is just the mask type setting or what we used to see on the System One machines called Resistance setting. It's called mask type on the DreamStation and Resistance control on the System One machines. It's the same thing and for all non Respironics masks it is suggested that the menu selection just be set to 0 which effectively turns off this feature.
Now if someone wants to try to figure out the inherent resistance in a ResMed mask and then compare it to the inherent resistance to a Respironics mask and use the setting associated with that mask...they can sure do it but you have to be careful because with the Respironics setting options there is also a factor of the size of whatever is being used. Like the setting for a size small in something is different than a setting for a size large in the same mask.

It's an awful lot of work and not all that critical of work to be done IMHO. Respironics doesn't give resistance settings for non Respironics masks....duh...they of course want you to buy their masks. It's not that big of a deal and in real life the resistance isn't all that different and really doesn't affect much. Respironics makes out like it does because they want to make a big deal out of something they do.
I suspect ResMed does something similar with their generic mask setting but they don't ever really tell us for sure.

But to answer the OP's original question....it's not a critical setting change that needs to be made. Pressures sure don't need to be changed. Changing the actual Resistance setting doesn't really change the pressure used enough to even be measurable.
Technically though....Respironics says turn off Resistance control or mask type when not using a Respironics mask.
They have never ever talked about changing the pressure itself and that's certainly not what the resistance control does.
