DREAMSTATION JUST STARTED ACTING ODD
DREAMSTATION JUST STARTED ACTING ODD
I have been using the Respironics dreamstation for about 2 years and all of a sudden I am being waken up most nites at the sound and feel of high pressure...so high that its blowing my mouth open and drying it out...very uncomfortable. I have the nasal pillows mask. it is set for auto 5-20 and when I have checked the pressure reading upon being woken up it 16.2 or so each time and it stays at that pressure...while im awake... it does not drop back down. No chance i can fall back asleep at that pressure so i have resulted in shutting the machine down...and start it back up again to go back to sleep. upon restart it seems to act normal the rest of the night.
is this thing malfunctioning?
no other changes that I can think of at all...been using this for 2 years never had this issue. I did the old stand by of unplugging it for a bit and plugging it back in just because...no change.

Re: DREAMSTATION JUST STARTED ACTING ODD
It take a long time for the pressure to reduce once it goes up so if you were sitting there and watching the 16.2 and expecting a fast drop since you woke up....not going to happen. It can take 10 minutes or more for the machine to slowly respond back down to lower pressures.
You probably should be using software to see just why the machine wants to go that high and how long it was up there before it woke you up.

Well, your machine isn't set right, unfortunately, it's set the way many ignorant doctors prescribe them.PAT507 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 7:35 amI have been using the Respironics dreamstation for about 2 years and all of a sudden I am being waken up most nites at the sound and feel of high pressure...so high that its blowing my mouth open and drying it out...very uncomfortable. i just uploaded the data to oscar...it shows plainly that as of nov 17 the high pressure was about 5 points higher on average when compared to the months prior.....something changed on that day.....bed was messed with the day before...mattress and mattress topper moved around....i wonder if the change lowerd my head angle just a bit...Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 8:58 amIt take a long time for the pressure to reduce once it goes up so if you were sitting there and watching the 16.2 and expecting a fast drop since you woke up....not going to happen. Re: DREAMSTATION JUST STARTED ACTING ODD
It's obvious your machine's pressure goes up and stays up for some reason or other.
Since it is prolonged I would assume related to something positional vs REM stage sleep pressure needs which tend to cycle as REM cycles.
So I would look at sleep position like supine sleeping or maybe head position causing chin stuck and more restriction of the airway as the cause. Your machine just responds to the air flow reduction with the increase in pressure. It's just doing its job. Nothing wrong with the machine. Something changed in your sleep position most likely.

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking position but was worried about a malfunction.
