Thanks pugsy that's good to hear. I am sleeping pretty well, I am still waking up sometimes because of the discomfort and also when there are leaks but hopefully most of that should be resolved with the bleep dreamport.
Have you seen other cases where centrals like these eventually disappear? I have only been using the cpap for about 7 weeks now which I guess in the big picture is not very much at all. Appreciate all the help you have provided. Thank you.
Brand new cpap user! Some questions regarding my first night
Re: Brand new cpap user! Some questions regarding my first night
Remember a few centrals here and there is considered normal.
There is a normal central apnea called a sleep onset central or a central that happens when we transition from awake to asleep and these are normal. So if we wake up a few times during the night and go back to sleep we are going to obviously have more opportunity to have these sleep onset centrals...so that's one possibility.
Some of the flagged centrals might even be related to simply holding our breath. Like turning over in bed and holding our breath when we turn over. We don't realize that we do it.
And even a random central that happens in the middle of being asleep is also considered normal.
Now there are some situations where a person didn't have very many centrals prior to cpap therapy and they end up with a lot more centrals popping up and the cpap itself is the trigger. These too can also fade away with time or at least reduce down to a number where they aren't a problem. From what I have read...it can take up to 6 months for these centrals to fade away if they are going to fade away.
Hold your breath for 10 seconds. That's essentially what a 10 second central apnea is and you can do that several times a night and it not cause a problem. You can easily do that and not be in distress and it won't affect oxygen levels.
There's all this panic about a handful of central apneas and it all unwarranted when we are talking about just a handful of real centrals.
Awake breathing flagged centrals simply don't count. You have to be asleep for any flagged event to matter.
7 weeks isn't really very long in the grand scheme of things. You are heading in the right direction.
Give yourself some time and concentrate on your sleep quality as much as you can ....limit wake up chances as much as possible to limit the chance of false positive events being flagged.
How you sleep and feel is even more important than the numbers.
