you're just breathing your own infected particles
How?
The fan brings room air through a filter then the machine and over a humidifier chamber (if using one) along the hose into the mask to your nose/mouth. Then out the vent holes in the mask.
All under pressure (cm).
Possibly cleaner than the room air on its own.

"A dirty CPAP machine contaminated with germs like viruses and bacteria can make you sick." the fda https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer- ... a-approved
.
It's the ******* (profanity removed) FDA palerider. What is it that you think they do?
Oh, yeah... ABOUT THAT... what does that VERY SAME ARTICLE say?

"Since each type and brand of CPAP machine is different, you should follow the cleaning schedule and instructions from the company that made your CPAP machine. All detachable CPAP parts can generally be cleaned with mild soap and water unless the owner’s manual says otherwise."

Doncha love it when your own citations say you're full of it?

You totally gloss over (or don't comprehend) the fact that the POINT of the article is that extreme cleaning methods *ARE NOT NECESSARY*. .....WHOOOSH

Shortly after I retired from the military, I went through a period of recurring sinus infections. My doctor finally referred me to an allergy specialist. After several years of shot therapy, I no longer had severe allergy problems and the sinus infections became became few and far between. Now that I am using a bilevel machine, I have had even less of them.
