Dreamwear nasal cushion issue help
I am using the dreamwear nasal they put me in a small size but looking at sizing I a right on the board of small anedium.
The cushion is making the area at the bottom of nose between the nostrils very sore. It tends to stay sore if I stop using for several days.
Should I try a medium or is there something I can do?
This is the only mask I has found that I can tolerate and I have tried a lot of them.
Thanks

Is it breaking the skin?edwardlotz wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 8:42 amThe cushion is making the area at the bottom of nose between the nostrils very sore.

Try the medium. Don't have anything to lose.
Also re-evaluate the strap tension. The most common mistake people make is too tight and that can cause a bruised feeling.
Now if it is rubbing a blister or breaking the skin..maybe a bit too loose as blisters come from movement.

You may also be using the wrong size frame, which pushes the cushion up agains your nose a little too tight. Most common frame size is the medium, and you may be needing the large. Assuming you're not allergic to silicone

I thought of this and I bought a large ,now it’s seems to fit better on my head. I think I will try a medium instead of the small I was given. They had me in a small nasal unit and medium mask.
It almost seems like I need some type of cushion between the nasal piece and my face.
Thanks

Size of the frame is a confusion that Respironics does not help prevent.
Large appears to be made for going over bouffant hairdos or such. I have a big head and Medium is good though my hair is short.
Initially I had to pad under the top of the frame, but eventually figured out that Respironics mismarked some Large as Medium.
IIRC there is a sizing guide though not impressive.

'Afro' style of hair is another case likely needing Large - curly bushy hair. Some people with black African genetics have quite curly hair.
Many in this forum may remember the Supremes singing group out of Motown. When they rejigged after producers Holland-Dozier-Holland left the company they changed to Afro hair style, even though IIRC their hair was not especially curly before, though it wasn't usually skimpy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ange ... 7_1969.jpg has examples. (Angela Davis was a violent Communist activist, nothing to do with the Supremes, I couldn't find a photo of them with afro hairdos.)
'Big Hair', beehive, etc are much hair on top, though beehive is much for CPAP and I presume gets mussed up from the headgear.

I use the Dreamwear nasal cushion as it's by far the most comfortable for me in any sleeping position. I am a guy and I use a size M. You may already know this but I have found that by moving the top piece of silicone where the tube attaches (sorry do not know the official name) forward or backwards a bit can fine tune the overall fit and feel.

Yes, definitely try the Medium cushion. The Medium has a bit more curvature than the Small on the upper lip part and will likely result in less pressure on that sore spot you mentioned.

One thing to note is understanding how the frame is adjusted vertically to pull up against your nostrils.
Adjusting the rear straps pulls the frame vertical pieces into a bit more of a vee shape which effectively shortens vertical height.
Certainly there's a balance between too tight and too lose, you will have to adjust straps as they take a set.
And I find it is necessary to push the cushion up after donning the interface, higher than you might think necessary.
The Brevida is an alternative nose-end cushion, works as well as the DreamSleep cushion for me. (Read instructions and my thread on it.)
But it has to rest on upper lip as well. Type of silicone is a point, some people are allergic to 'tin cure', whereas allergy to 'platinum cure' is rare.
