Need help with the Philips DreamMapper app

Post by Lend27 » Wed Nov 11, 2020 7:54 am

The app captures nightly cpap data on my Dreamstation machine.
It gives me a nightly AHI number, along with the details making up that number.
Last night as an example, it gave me the following info:
AHI = 4.7
Total Clear Airway Apneas = 9
Total Obstructive Apneas = 3
Total Hypopneas = 26.
I need info as to the significance of each of these numbers.
Are my readings good?
Is CPAP working for me?
Thank you for your input 😀

Total number of anything is pretty much useless without knowing the hours of usage.

AHI of 4.7 While technically below what doctors would be happy with since they use the below 5.0 AHI guideline....most people find they feel better when AHI is less than 2.0.

AHI of 4.7 means that on average there's a good chance your sleep is interrupted ever 12 minutes by some sort of airway issue.
If I came over to your house and poked you with a stick every 12 minutes to wake you up do you think you would feel so great?

Hyponeas are important. There is a reason the machines flag them and respond to them.
By definition they are a 40 to 79% reduction in airflow that lasts at least 10 seconds.
Obstructive apneas are by definition 80 to 100% reduction in airflow that lasts at least 10 seconds.
In reality there isn't all that much difference between 70% and 80% in terms of what it can do to our sleep.

The numbers I posted were for an 8 hour sleep period.

One other thing to note, is depending on your machine, you may have a SD card you can pop into the computer and get much more granular data on OSCAR. This may help you better understand your numbers and associate them with events like mask leakage .

I know when I got the Dreamstation CPAP my machine was considered a "brick" meaning it didn't really record useful data, but from what I can tell yours was recording more than mine. It might be worth a look.

As far as your numbers, I can't really say much and will defer to more experienced users as I am relatively new to this. Just thought I would add this little bit in case you have a data capable machine and want to dig in further in the future.

Good luck with your treament!!
