ResMed Airsense 10 Shutdown While Sleeping

Post by pudgypoet » Wed Oct 28, 2020 10:10 pm

I have on 3 occasions been awaken by the AS10 shutting down while I was in deep sleep. On 2 other occasions it has lowered the air pressure substantially. I've called the place of purchase and the lady worked diligently with me trying to find the problem. We never found a resolution. In 2 of the shutdown experiences the water tank became empty. It's scary waking up fighting for air in the middle of a deep sleep. I'm interested in finding out what the problem(s) are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. One other thing...the ramp is turned off but the machine ramps up to the minimum level when turned on. Thanks.

I would check to see if the "Smart Start" feature is turned on. That feature automatically turns on the machine when you put on the mask and start breathing. It turns off the machine when you take off the mask. If you have a large leak during the night, it could think you took off the mask and turn off...Also...If you have a long apnea event. However, it should turn back on also. If that feature is turned on...turn it off and use the on/off button...See if that solves the problem. An empty water tank should not turn the machine off, but it could burn the humidifier tub. With the ramp turned off, the machine is doing exactly what it should by going directly to the minimum pressure setting. (What are you expecting it to do?).

Not to make light of it, but my cat's stepped on the Off button more than once...

I'm going to recommend you get OSCAR and look at your charts. To me, the part about the humidifier going dry suggests you had a rather large leak, and if a leak is large enough the machine will 'think' you've taken the mask off and power down (unless you turn off that feature as LSAT suggests).

Airsense 10 machines (the only Resmed machine I have experience) always come up to pressure semi-gradually. A real Ramp feature takes minutes, not the few seconds that the machine spends turning on air.

Approximately, a year ago my Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset on Smart Start shut down by itself two separate times Both times the Sleepyhead flow rate showed very shallow breathing. (Tidal volume and Minute vent were OK) Both times when I breathed out forcefully it turned back on.

I simply turned off Smart Start and use the on/off button.
That still works to this day. :D

I am not the only one to have had this happen to them. Some machines seem to have a "glitch" in them.
Your machine may/may not be one of these.

Just thought I would chime in.
