Dreams of suffocation and weird OSCAR patterns

Post by Windrunner » Sun Oct 11, 2020 3:22 pm

I'm trying to get used to CPAP, but I keep getting unpleasant dreams when wearing it. Yesterday I had a dream that I'm unable to breathe, which was accompanied by this weird pattern in Oscar.
Could these dreams be caused by the settings somehow? Too high PS maybe? I also have a lot of waxing/waning patterns.
So far, I couldn't use the pap for longer than 2-3h. Sometimes it's these dreams that freak me out in the middle of the night, other times I just wake up feeling uncomfortable.
I originally set these low settings up because that's what feels comfortable when awake (and I was hoping they would get me through the full night on the pap)

What to do??

You weren't asleep during that time you zoomed in on. If you aren't asleep you can expect to see weird breathing patterns because awake/semi awake breathing is simply irregular when compared to asleep breathing.

Now as to why the weird dreams. Don't know about that except maybe you just need a little more air moving than what you have now.

To get more air moving, you could raise your minimum pressure, increase your pressure support, or some of each. I'd suggest picking one change to try, and trying it for at least several days to see how you do with it (unless it's awful, in which case, don't persevere). I'd also suggest that you make changes in fairly small increments, something less than 1 at a time.

Hi,

_suffocating dreams/nightmares: sounded so familiar to me, for some 40 years (anteceding awakening/wake ups, gasping for air). However, something is not fitting, I am afraid: mine, always associated with respiratory effort in quasi-hypopneas and so on, subsided a lot AFTER AirCurve 10, rather than when using the machine. Today, I would say, the suffocating ones completely disappear, yet still remain what I call "stuck dreams" (not sure I could fix this one day in life), which somehow look proportional to flow constrictions' (sometimes with arousals/awakenings) intensity during REM stages, and sleep quality in general;

_ wondering if could post your full night context, maybe with some more curves (MV, TV, Insp Time: may bring some sense on respiratory effort, and arousals/awakenings);

all the best and good luck
