2) Before bed drink: 1 TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) mixed in an 8 ounce glass of water. This will neutralize any left over acid in your stomach. Basic chemistry: Acid + Acid = Base
Sorry, no. Acid + Acid still equals acid. If one acid is strong and the other weak, you might result with an acid mixture with a pH somewhere between the two, but not weaker than the weak acid.

A base neutralize an acid. This creates a salt (the chemical term, not necessarily TABLE salt).

Antacids are designed to have a mildly acidic value. Alka Seltzer contains, for instance, sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate (both mildly alkaline, or basic), PLUS citric acid (https://associationofanaesthetists-publ ... 0of%206.5.). The resulting pH is slightly acidic, 6.5, which follows the weak acid + strong acid rule. Gastic acid, by comparison, runs 1.5 to 3.5 pH (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastric_a ... ne%20tide.).

I think the citric acid 'answer' is more to the dilution with water, which greatly reduces its pH...

It is counter intuitive but when you add more acid (ACV in water is a weak diluted acid) it tells the stomach to stop producing acid and it works just like an antacid by turning strong acid into weak acid. I have done it thousands of times and it stops the acid production cold in its tracks and last for a long time. Also most people's real problem is that they don't have enough acid so adding ACV helps there too! It is a win win.

Is there a connection between sleep apnea and acid reflux? Does one cause the other or worsen the other? If so, how?
Hi,
_ in accordance with the ENT, Dr. Steven Park (his book Sleep Interrupted and blogs, etc), definitively there would be connections between UARS and reflux, actually, it would be quite typical as well explained by Dr. Steven in the book.

all the best and good luck
Does that mean if you use a CPAP machine to get a good night's sleep without apnea, that your acid reflux or GERD will go away too? It's annoying in the morning when I take a first bite of food, the GERD in my chest tightens and makes me feel like I'm choking or suffocating. Awful. It happens even when I feel no stomach acid in the morning.

I forgot to add something else earlier. Some people say that taking probiotic supplements or eating kefir or yogurt, may reduce acid reflux too. Not sure if that's true, but I guess having good stomach flora could help maybe.

That's true. I heard that like cancels out like, that's why drinking something acidic like apple cider vinegar works to reduce acid reflux. It's a bit counter-intuitive, but it works. However, I think this only works for mild acid reflux, not for severe reflux.

Have any of you tried drinking baking soda? It works but tastes awful.

Did any of you try probiotics or yogurt or kefir? Did that reduce your acid reflux? It seems to work for me but I can't be sure if it's coincidence or not because correlation does not always mean causation.

I have reflux. Just not but 10 minutes ago a ball of acid came up and I grabbed my ACV and took a swig. BOOM, acid gone. If I did not do that I would keep spitting up acid and feel awful all day. I don't use baking soda because it is salt and I have high blood pressure. Probiotics and yogurt never worked for me. If they did it was very little.

You mean you drink the ACV directly without mixing it in water? Isn't it better to mix it in water? How many should you take? One or two teaspoons? Is your reflux severe? If so, that's good news. I thought ACV works only with mild reflux.

Do you have GERD too? How do you counter that? My GERD comes unexpectedly when I take a bite of food in the morning and makes me feel like I'm choking and suffocating severely. It's excruciating for 30 seconds, until I drink some liquid or soup. Any idea how to prevent that? It comes and goes, so there's no telling when it will happen, but when it does, it's excruciating. Dang.

My reflux is sometimes mild but also sometimes bad. I always mix 1 TBSP AVC in an 8 ounce glass of water and keep it at my desk. I drink a swig or two until the acid is gone. Sometimes it takes the whole glass. Sometimes only a swig.

GERD only seems to bother me at night when I lie down, so I drink some AVC in water before lying down. It works for me all night. You just have to find for you how much of the glass to drink.

Reporting back to say that I am sleeping better. The key seemed to be lowering my MIN. I am now able to get between 4 to 6 hours with ResMed at night. It would be greater if I was regularly getting 7 hours of sleep at night (which was my normal for years) but I'm thankful for this improvement. The acid reflux is better controlled if I don't eat after 6pm, which is very hard for me to do. I'm taking it one day at a time, and happy to not have anymore chest pain.

Glad to hear it. What did you lower your pressure too? Hell I don't eat after 4pm lol for my Reflux.
