A study published in the medical journal Lancet in 2019 found that nearly 1 billion people worldwide suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Regionally, too, the statistics conform to the global trends. For instance, the European Respiratory Society estimates that 13% to 32% of the geriatric population in Europe suffer from sleep apnea. As a result, the demand for sleep apnea treatment is escalating and driving the sleep apnea treatment devices market trends. Furthermore, the incidence of OSA is spiking owing to the rising prevalence of obesity, the most common cause for interrupted sleep, which according to the World Health Organization, presently affects close to 650 million adults worldwide.

Well, right away I saw some reporting that's incorrect. Apnea is not thought (now) to be caused by obesity, but rather, obesity may be caused by apnea, and apnea itself caused by anatomy - small jaws that narrow the airway, large tongues falling back and blocking airways, etc. etc. And so many 'failures' of Cpap are as much due to bad information given to new users, the 'wrong' help extended by doctors who unfortunately don't know much about how equipment works or how to tweak it for maximum benefit, and not enough help passed on to the industry (which includes doctors) that accepts 'failure' as an option. When patients are given the right information and helped with adjustments to their Cpap set-up, it is a noninvasive and easily tolerated way to treat apnea.
