Mask with bigger vent holes

Post by void » Thu Sep 10, 2020 11:18 am

I got mild apnea.
I tried Prisma Smart CPAP with pressure of 4.5cm and a nose mask, but felt lack of air.
I saw posts that recommended to raise the pressure to allow CO2 to clear out.
Other option that I can guess that mask with bigger vent holes can do the job.
What CPAP mask models have the biggest vent holes?

All masks have very adequate vent holes to allow for carbon dioxide being pushed out. Believe me they have been thoroughly tested in that regard.
It actually, from an engineering aspect, doesn't take much air movement to dispel carbon dioxide adequately but it doesn't always feel that way especially at the minimal pressures of 4 or 5.

You could have the biggest vent holes in the world and it still not feel so comfortable at your pressure.

It's the simple lack of air movement in general that is causing the discomfort. Increase your pressure and it will feel better.

welcome to the zoo!

where did you see the post regarding raising pressure to allow co2 out? EVERY mask is going to clear out co2, else you wouldn't be alive to type the above. :) the "lack of air" you felt is probably caused by the fact that your starting pressure is too low. many have trouble breathing against that pressure. if you were to raise it to at least 6, that may make it easier to breathe.

and out of curiosity, i take it your cpap machine isn't one available to the north american market?? at least, that's what a light google search indicate to me.

good luck!

Thank you for your answers!
I think the lack of air was because the exhaled air did not got fully out from the vent holes and I started to inhale again.
If I increase the pressure it should remove the exhaled CO2 faster, but will make it more difficult to exhale against the incoming air.
If I get a mask with bigger vent holes, it should also remove the CO2 faster and allow me to breath more easily against lower pressure.
1. Do you agree with this or is there something I don't understand correctly?
2. Does BiPAP allows to exhale more easily?
3. I read about CPAP pressure decrease during exhale. What auto CPAP machines have this feature and do they allow to always set the exhaled pressure to the lowest pressure of 4cm?

*most* people do not feel like they get enough air at the pressure you are using, a minimum of 7, for most people, is a more realistic setting.

Every time we breathe in an enclosed space, room, vehicle, etc.,
we are inhaling some carbon dioxide--not all our own.
Try not to let it bother you.
The CO2 is less likely to harm you than the ANXIETY.
Try not to be "that guy".

no. almost everything you've said is incorrect.

do NOT worry about co2 build up. it's not going to happen. it's NOT happening to you now. and it WON'T happen to you.

you have trouble breathing out because a minimum of four is TOO LOW. i know that this is counter-intuitive. but if you RAISE the minimum pressure, it will make it EASIER to breathe.

good luck!

This is SO true! If I turn ramp on I have trouble breathing until the machine gets up quite a bit (at least 10 for me].
Listen to zonker on this!

I turned ramp completely off long ago.
It only takes seconds before my passages are receiving wonderful AIR.
