ear problems/headache with cpap

Post by bakerboy0_2 » Fri Aug 28, 2020 7:43 am

i'm new to this site but have had some issues with my cpap

I have been using auto cpap for approx 6 months. sleep has improved but I have been experiencing issues that have been worsening. Has anyone had clogged ears, especially in the morning with loud ringing, dizziness, and incredible Headaches, jaw tension throughout the day. 800 mg of ibuprofen helps for a few hours

I decided not to use my cpap last night, woke up with a slight headache, no ear issues or jaw tension

I have noticed that if I yawn with my mask on, my ears clog immediately. the best way for to describe the ear sensation is similar to riding on a airplane and around 10000 ft, that feeling right before your ears pop, that is how my ears feel the majority of the time

I am using phillips respironics dream station with wisp headgear and nasal cushions. I am going to try a full face mask and see if that helps. the nasal cushion is comfortable but as i move throughout the night it leaks air or my mouth will open.

What are all your settings? And do you use the Ramp feature - if so ditch it, it won't help anything and could contribute to lesser therapy. Do you use any exhalation relief setting (A- or Cflex) and do you take any meds besides the ibuprofen?

This is hogwash and completely irrelevant to the issues the OP is describing.

OP, if ramp is important to sleeping well, tolerating pressures or comfort than continue using it.

You should download OSCAR, post some graphs and perhaps some actual therapy improvements can be suggested.

Need to see an ENT doctor and have Eustachian tubes checked out.

I have always had issues with my eustachian tubes, though never rising to the need of intervention.
I do experience the issue where my ears become unbalanced if a yawn while on cpap. Fortunately yawning kind of stops once cpap begins for me.
If I have that issue and can't clear them, I'll disconnect the house, clear them and reconnect.
Other than that I don't have any good ideas other than a pugsy already started, see an ent.

I have. pressure in both ears tested fine..Although i didnt have the ringing that day. No visible fluid behind eardrum, noticeable hear loss at 4000 hz. ENT prescibed fluticasone propionate spray for each nostril. supposed to help Eustachian issues. I have used it only one evening so far, to early to determine if the med works

thanks

oh, dear! was going to recommend flonase to the op. it's the same as the prescription.

however-

"Prescription Flonase is Stronger So I'll Use It Instead

Wrong!

Over-the-counter Flonase Allergy Relief is exactly the same as prescription Flonase -- it’s the same medicine, fluticasone propionate, at the same strength and dose. The brand product Flonase is now discontinued, but generics are available."

https://www.drugs.com/slideshow/flonase ... takes-1235

costco sells such a generic equivalent. i'm sure that other places have it as well.

i'll tuck this away for future postings. and i guess i'm going to have to stop posting about flonase!

bummer(as the avatar says)
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Too early to expect to see much relief from the nasal spray. It doesn't work fast and you have to take it as directed.
Since we don't know what the problem is though...but going on how long we would expect it take for normal allergy symptoms....I would say at least 5 to 7 days.

I have had the air pressure thing on occasion...never any ringing though....All it takes me to clear my ears is a big yawn. That's what I do when I fly or even drive when altitude changes.
Doesn't hurt though....no headaches either for me so the only thing I have experienced is the pressure thing and it's very rare and easily cleared..

My Eustachian tubes have bothered me intermittently for decades.
Cpap has no effect on it, but allergies/colds do.
Once I started using a daily antihistamine, my ears are fine.
Loratadine 10 mg (OTC) works for me.
Others have no effect.
