How do CPAPs measure AHI levels

I am wondering how CPAP machines work out what you AHI?

Are the readings very accurate? Whats the accuracy level? Is it artificially increased by things like eg taking the mask off momentarily while the air is still going through the hose? What else?

They measure the amount of times you stop breathing, or you breath less than you have been and divide that by the number of hours you've used the machine that session.

Simple math.
