Transferring Oscar data from PC to PC

Post by cnl390 » Wed Jul 29, 2020 12:51 pm

How can I transfer all of my data from Oscar on my work PC to Oscar on my home PC.
Oscar on my work PC has all my old S9 data as well as my newer Autoset 10 data. My home PC only has my Autoset 10 data.
Thanks

Of what value is the old S9 data...personally, I am only interested in how I slept last night, not how I slept 3-4 years ago.

OSCAR v1.1.1, has the ability to zip the data.

Menu / Help / Trouble Shooting / Create zip of all OSCAR data

This will create a single ZIP file for convenient travel.

What *I* would do, but haven't tried is. After bringing the zip file home, run OSCAR, determine where the data is stored, likely Documents\OSCAR_Data.

Work MachineL
Make sure both machines are on latest OSCAR 1.1.1
Update your work machine data so its data is current
Create a ZIP on put it on a USB drive

Home Machine
Rename the directory to OSCAR_Data_Backup
UnZip the ZIP file you created on your work PC
Copy it in it's entirety to OSCAR_Data directory

Run OSCAR. Note, the content of your work machines data should be here.

If anything goes wrong, then delete OSCAR_Data and rename OSCAR_Data_Backup back to OSCAR_Data

This kind of comes under the category of, if you have to ask how to do it, then maybe you shouldn't be doing it if losing the data is a problem.

I the OP does well to ask the question.

As we go on learning--in my case, starting out with zero knowledge about xPAP and sleep apnea--some of us who are still working to improve our sleep will want to revisit earlier progress and look at details still pertinent to our sleep improvement. We do the look backs in light of present knowledge and will know better how to proceed.

Similar claim a claim can be made about the value of learning, knowing and reviewing some fact based History, national and global, warts and all. Science has been advanced by those who absorb knowledge and gain wisdom from knowing past mistakes, insights and the evolution of their predecessors.

That is, I think the OP was well justified.

Thank you very much for the help. I have saved the .zip to a USB thumb drive and will install when I get home.

Be nice. What is common to you is new to someone else and applies everywhere in life.

Do you mind pointing out where I suggested that the OP should not have asked or that he was somehow not justified?

And how was my response not "nice".

Did either of you spend any time reading my response?
And where are your responses instructing the OP how to accomplish this task.

My response answered exactly what was asked and pointing out what I pointed out was not mean and was perfectly accurate. Doing what the OP is asking runs the risk of his losing his data. And anyone who needs to ask how to do something along these lines, should evaluate whether they are the person to do it, "if losing the data is a problem"

Why don't the two of you try catching spears for once, instead of just throwing them.

(I take a ton of medication to sleep in the first place, so my mind gets foggy)
I think that explains a lot.

Defensive much? I was just pointing out that just because you don't know what your doing doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. How do you think people learn to drive? Practice and learning from mistakes. Take it easy, i saw you told the OP how to do it.

Post stalking how cute. Explains why you are single. Go back to your parents basement.

Glad you took my statement out of context and you find it amusing that I require medication to sleep and couldn't breath in the middle of the night.

If we are lucky your machine will give out in the middle of the night and give us all a fresh breath of air and you can experience what it's like.

They learn to drive by learning the laws, road signs, car equipment, the basics, then they start by having a skilled driver to take them on the road.

They don't learn to drive by posting a message on a forum message board and "asking how do I drive?", then jump in the car and go.

And by simply doing so, one would recognize that such nativity suggests that they don't yet have the required skills yet to accomplish this. And suggesting as much isn't being mean.

The task that the OP is asking about may be simple, but it may also be very complex and outside of the bounds of what OSCAR can do. Simply by asking the question suggests the OP may not have the skills and experience to accomplish it. And attempting to do so could result in his losing the data.

That's worth pointing out, as I did. It would be negligent not to. It's not a shot at him.

Simple question though. If the OP has difficulty, and if the OP corrupts his data, are you going to bail him out? Will you step him through the process to recover it?

I'm pretty sure you won't commit to helping him if he has trouble, and judging by the problem solving skills you've demonstrated in your posts, that's a good thing.
