Don't worry. It's better than being in Pelican Bay without a CPAP and someone to watch your back.

Yes, I spoke with her yesterday and asked if she could sleep with her head raised some. She said she would try that. ThanksPugsy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 12:07 pmCPAP machines can potentially spread Covid. It's because of the potential for her own exhaled breathe going out into the room air through the mask vent holes. Let's face it...minimal risk but a risk nonetheless especially if she shares a room with another resident.
Has your mom been tested to see if she has it or not?
In the meantime...have her sleep upright as much as possible. The head of the bed should elevate. Sleeping upright will help reduce the chance of the airway closing off as much. It's not perfect but it is something that can help.

But be careful of her head being too far down to her chest (angle) as that can block her airway too - why many wear soft cervical collars when sleeping.

Re: Help needed for my Mom
Thank you everyone, for all your ideas and helpful thoughts. I appreciate your help. I will tell my Dad everything and hope he can get to the bottom of this. One of the big issues is also that they won't cast her leg. She has a double fracture of both her tibia and fibula and they say they don't cast them. What? I've never head of that. If you've got a broken leg you need a cast. Her leg is just flopping around. I don't know how they expect to send her home like that.
Anyway, thank you for the ideas about her Cpap. You guys are great!

There are valid reasons for not casting - I would call to talk to the doctors and have them explain in detail to you what's going on, and if you have trouble reaching them, the hospital should have a patient's advocate or representative, or at least a social worker who should get involved. Don't let them intimidate you.
