Possibly messed up my sleep study...
SO I just did my first sleep study last night and well I think I won't be getting any correct results as far as sleep apnea goes. I'm a night owl but since I was tired when I got to the sleep study at 10:30pm I thought I would sleep at least 4 or 5 hours....nope...I only slept 1 hour. I was up the rest of the night. Tried counting backwards, reading, thinking calm thoughts. Nope. Nothing worked. I feel bummed because I'm pretty sure the doctor won't be able to do much with the results. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Yes, this does happen sometimes, and it's not surprising, given the abnormal sleep situation. You may have slept more than you thought, though, so just hang on and see what the doctor says. If you need a do-over, ask whether taking a sleeping pill of some kind would be a good idea.

Re: Possibly messed up my sleep study...
Happens all the time, happened to me on my sleep study.
For my sleep study I was in bed (lights out) for 454 minutes (7 and a half hours), but only slept for 87 minutes (hour and a half).
You also can't count on how much sleep you *think* you got. I didn't think I had sleep all night.
Sleep Apnea can be diagnosed from short sleep sessions. A short sleep session may generate a false negative, but typically won't generate a false positive. And it may not adequately measure the severity. If you only sleep for an hour, and sleep apnea is observed, that's pretty conclusive. But in that hour just because it's not observed, it can't be concluded you don't have it.
With me, my severity wasn't accurately measured. I did not achieve REM sleep, and I've since learned that my apnea is more severe during REM.

Most folks experience what happened to you. I was like you. I SWORE I didn't get enough sleep to get a good diagnoses. The problem is most people can't get passed the sleep study results (report out) because they think the study was faulty.... so the results are faulty. Anyway, it is normal. I hope you don't have this ugly disease.... but if you do, we'll help you succeed and maybe add 10 to 15 years on to your life. And feel better living it.

When it comes to improving sleep using PAP therapy, any diagnostic test that earns you the chance to try the treatment to see if it helps is a sufficiently successful test. And optimizing pressures is something you can accomplish well enough on your own with a full-data treatment machine and help from fellow patients here. So any "mess up" can easily be unmessed.

My brother could not sleep AT ALL, so his doctor let him take a home study.
They are less comprehensive, but often sufficient enough for diagnosis.
The cost difference can be substantial.
