AHI getting higher after exercising regularly?
AHI getting higher after exercising regularly?
Hi all,
I have been away from this forum for a long time but now I am back looking for advice as my AHI has been increasing.
I started running regularly (every alternate day) since 5 June. I usually run in the morning around 10am or evening about 6pm. Prior to 5 June it seems like my AHI were generally <5. However, a week after 5 June, I am generally getting >5. I am also consistently having periodic breathing since 5 June.
Does it make sense that exercising is making my AHI worse? And I would like to seek advice if i should change any settings.

Can anyone please help to see if there's any settings i need to change? It's almost bedtime, would love to try the new settings you suggest. Thanks

Anyone help please?????

Re: AHI getting higher after exercising regularly?
People are generally advised not to exercise prior to bedtime, but I'm not sure if what you said about your schedule qualifies unless your bedtime is very early.
How do you feel (apart from what numbers say here)? If you're comfortable with things, then I wouldn't worry too much except to possibly look into lowering your leaks - and you might want to look at Padacheek.com liners to start with. But you seem to be looking to tweak things without a lot of info apart from the periodic breathing. Have you had a check-up lately? With labs covering not just the basics, but possibly a little more (thyroid, sugar, etc)? Hard to help without more to go on.
Any new meds? Weight chånge?

I typically sleep around 11pm, done running latest 7:30pm, is this gap too close?Julie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:04 amPeople are generally advised not to exercise prior to bedtime, but I'm not sure if what you said about your schedule qualifies unless your bedtime is very early.

Apart from the numbers, I actually do not feel any difference, I do not feel more tired in the day.
Previously my mask was kinda loose because I didn't want to wake up and go to work with red marks on my face. But a few days to a week ago, I tightened it. The screenshot is after tightening - is the leak consider bad? I'll check out padacheek.com, hopefully they ship to Singapore.
Haven't had check up lately, last was months ago. Why the concern of thyroid? My mum has history of that and my niece too, you're making me worried

Go to the above link and watch the videos and learn to figure out awake vs asleep flagged events.
While it mainly is talking about central/clear airway apneas in the videos just remember it can be any category of event that might get flagged.
I see a couple of breaks in therapy where you must have turned the machine off and back on again so I know at least awake a couple of times. So a good chance that some of those flagged events are arousal or awake false positive flags. If you aren't asleep they don't count.
There's nothing wrong with your leaks. I don't see any large leak flagging at all and nothing anywhere near large leak territory for your machine at your pressures. If leaks aren't waking you up...they aren't a problem at all.
More pressure won't help central/clear airway apneas...but if you are having very many OAs or hyponeas AND you were for sure asleep...try 1 cm more EPAP minimum.
If the bulk of the increased AHI is from arousal/awake related flagging....more pressure won't fix it because you weren't asleep.
You would need to instead try to fix the cause of the not sleeping so great.
Your report looks more like crappy sleep from some outside unknown factor than it does crappy sleep from needing a pressure adjustment.
Very possibly crappy sleep secondary to the increase in exercise that you mention.
So before changing pressures trying to fix something .....make sure that what you are wanting to fix with more pressure is fixable with more pressure. If it's crappy sleep...that's not fixable with more pressure.

And weight loss is often not fixed just with exercise (often even made worse because of stuffing yourself afterward!). You need to count calories as well, or at least watch what you eat more carefully... that's what does the trick, though exercise is of course important.
Re: AHI getting higher after exercising regularly?
I do have crappy sleep and wake up multiple times each night because I sleep with my toddler and she toss and turn non stop through the night. She has been like that for the past 2 years but only recently I started getting high AHI, and it coincides with the period I started out exercising so that's why I thought it could be the cause.Pugsy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 8:52 amhttp://freecpapadvice.com/sleepyhead-free-software

Re: AHI getting higher after exercising regularly?
I have reduced my intake of carbs by more than half and made sure I do not stuff myself after exercising, instead, sometimes I starve myselfJulie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 9:04 amAnd weight loss is often not fixed just with exercise (often even made worse because of stuffing yourself afterward!). I'm definitely intaking less calories and burning more than before but not sure why weight loss isn't significant, though I could see my body getting slimmer.

Fat's turning to muscle, so it looks nicer!

Re: AHI getting higher after exercising regularly?
Try exercising earlier in the day and see what happens with your reports.
