Hose Covers...

Post by joeljjk11 » Wed Jun 24, 2020 1:07 pm

How much does a fabric hose cover raise the temp of the hose by? I like a lot of humidity, and have had it on 6 with the hose temperature at 86, I think this is just too much though with the cover and I am starting to open my mouth at night. And I am waking up with my nose all stuffed up and I have had to blow it quite a bit each morning. I lowered the temp of the hose to 83, would this be enough to prevent rainout with the hose cover? Thanks

Joel

No one can give you a definitive answer because it depends on the humidity and ambient temperature in your house. I am curious, where do you live? Here in the northeast of USA, it is pretty much summer and I have very little need to add humidity. Setting it to 6 makes me think you must be in a desert.

I live in Massachusetts but I just prefer extra humidity, if I have the humidity too low on the machine then I tend to feel dehydrated and just not that great overall. I think this is also due to some of the medications that I take and I am more sensitive to it than most people.

Wow, I can only imagine how much Winter must suck for you then! (I am in Nashua, btw).

Medicines can definitely be a huge factor. If you haven't already, you should discuss it with your doctor.

But when you say dehydrated, are you saying that from a systemic point of view or is that more a oral/sinus issue? If it is systemic, I don't think you can resolve it with the humidifier.

Some people disallow themselves water towards the end of the day in hopes they can sleep through the night. If you are doing that, you might not be doing yourself any favors...

I don't know why you would want a hose cover on a heated hose.

I'm not sure a hose cover would increase the temperature on a heated hose.

Assuming it has a thermostat in it. If it is set to 86 degrees the thermostat would regulate it at about 86 whether a cover was on it or not.

You are correct....when we use a heated hose AND a hose cover all the hose cover will do is help maintain whatever temp we have it set at. It might save a little electricity but the hose air won't get or be warmer than the temp that the heated hose is set to when the heated hose is used.

It absolutely does. It's that bit that hangs in the way and makes it hard to clean the hose.

I live in the desert and if I set the humidity at 6 and the hose temp at 86 I would freaking DROWN!! Different strokes for different folks but I cannot comprehend how someone could sleep with that much heat and moisture being pumped into them.

It's all in what makes your nasal mucosa happy and if your nasal mucosa aren't happy....you won't be happy either.
They can and will make your life miserable.
Been there....done that myself.
