Resmed AirSense 10 won't stop blowing after 30 min. cooldown

Post by ginalaurie » Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:51 am

I'm a new user and I'm having trouble with my Resmed AirSense 10. It is not set to SmartStart. When I go to bed, I press the Start button and the machine starts fine, but when I wake up and press the stop button, the machine continues to blow air at 4 pressure until I turn it back on and hold down the start button for 3 seconds putting it in standby mode.

I've read the manual where it's supposed to blow to clear out any residual moisture in the tube and then shut off after 30 minutes or so, but I have let it blow for up to 4 hours waiting for it to shut off automatically and it never does.

I spoke to my therapist about it and she had to look it up in the manual before agreeing with me that it should stop after 30 minutes. Then she told me, "There can't be anything wrong with it. It's a brand new machine."

I don't quite know what to do. I can't seem to find any way to ask Resmed directly about it. I don't have a lot of confidence in a machine that doesn't seem to be working correctly.

Am I missing something? Is it supposed to be doing this? Should I talk to the therapist's manager if I can't get adequate service from her?

Thanks for listening,
Gina

Mine does stop after 30 minutes...

During the cooldown cycle there's a snowflake near the top of the display. Do you see that after it should have stopped??

I wonder if it would shut down if you turned on Smartstart.
Just an experiment to see if that would happen?
You can still turn it on and off manually with Smartstart turned on.
Never heard of this. Curious. :?

Just because something is brand new doesn't mean there is nothing that can ever be wrong with something.

Make them swap it out for a different machine. Tell them you don't have confidence in a machine that doesn't seem to work correctly.
Makes you wonder what else might be wrong with it.

That manual she read was probably the ones they stole out of your purchase.
That settles it, the manuel has to be wrong, DME's don't lie, unless their lips are moving, some well trained ones can still lie without their lips not moving at all. Jim

Even with the cool down run, moist air will keep going into the tubing from the water in the HH, it's called passive HH.

Unplug the machine from the wall for a minute or so to reset it.
Actually time it, turn it on, check it every 10 minutes, see if the snowflake is on to determine if it actually does turn off
See if it actually does go off
Take a picture of it with the snowflake and quote the manual. By the way the manual says 20 minutes.

Inform the DME that the machine is required to cool down, you can't be expected to turn it off manually 20 minutes later, and failing to remember it will run for 24 hours which will reduce the lifetime of the machine severely and likely after the warranty period.

Cool down period blowing does indeed count towards the total run hours.

Wonder what the run hours are showing now? Do you know how to check for run hours? These aren't the same as therapy hours.
Explained in the manual.
