UARS/TMJ/LPR help
UARS/TMJ/LPR help
HI all I had posted a few months back about my condition with UARS and LPR and TMJ - started cpap about last September
The pattern I am seeing is that I feel better and then just get back to being worse again… I always wake up with my heart racing which is all scary (yes have done numerous heart monitor/EKG’s and supposedly it was normal even though I have zero trust in doctors. I am still waking up like a truck hit me, very irritable, heart racing and that alternates with IBS and silent LPR more like a very very sour taste in mouth when waking up - jaw clicking all the time….. (of course this is even before using the machine- have had all this since I can remember)
THe last change I made was fromo a 8.5 to a 9 and while that brought annoying burping and blasting the numbers looked good but then felt bad again and reduced it too an 8.5 the last two days… but I feel I'm breathing better at 9- I am really not sure what to do anymore - I keep thinking if the GERD is causing everything and vice versa…. I don’t know what to do anymore..
I have more charts if needed but the numbers fluctuate from day to day there is no pattern - I know I am supposed to go with how I feel but nothing is feeling better it does then it gets worse again... I am also beginning t suspect if the LPR is causing literally everything! I posted one chart at 8.5 and another at 9 and an overview.
as for meds I only take Nexium and magnesium to keep my bowels regular
Thank you for all your time and labor!

Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
Is there a reason your max. pressure setting is so low (vs 20, which is more usual)?
Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
Probably aerophagia issues since he mentions annoying burping.

Oh, you're right... been sitting here all day waiting for my own phone appt... it's now 5, so not going to happen, but hey, TGIF!

Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
Should I increase it?
Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
There's no urgent need to increase the maximum unless you see it hit the maximum often or for prolonged periods of time.
If the machine doesn't want to go higher it won't go higher no matter what the maximum is set at.
If it could be set at 100 and you set it at 100 it still wouldn't go any higher than it goes and the maximum setting does NOT affect the response or what the auto algorithm does or doesn't do unless your machine continually hits that max and is prevented from going higher.
And even if it is sometimes hitting that max....sometimes we have to make compromises when the problem it creates at higher pressures ends up being worse than the problem it is trying to fix with higher pressures....like aerophagia issues.
In your situation unless you see a lot of time hitting the max AND the AHI points to an urgent need for more pressure I wouldn't be letting the machine go higher. You aren't hitting it anyway....doesn't really matter what it is set at.

Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
I think that this is my problem I’m not able to understand how to read the graph and how to know if I’m hitting my max enough or not? I’m also wondering if it’s possible at all that my LPR is the cause of all my UARS? My latest sleep study said I had mild apnea but my doctor still suspects something else is causing it - of course that might be his stereotypical thinking that I’m in my 30’s female and thin but is it possible? I wish there were better doctors!
Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
Look at the top line on your pressure graph and see where it sort of flattens out.....that's 10.5 cm max limit but you really don't spend much time there. It's very brief. You are hitting the max limit but not for very long. Most of the time it's not being hit.
Right before 03:40 you hit it and at 6:20 you hit it on the June10 report.
The rest of the time 10.0 seems to be the highest you went to and those were mainly the test pressure probes doing their normal testing thing.

Re: UARS/TMJ/LPR help
oh wow that actually helps alot! Do you think LPR could be a sole cause of UARS/ apnea in your opinion? all is the heart racing and tightness in chest normal for people like us?
