AirFit F30i mask question

Post by lrob123 » Tue Jun 09, 2020 1:52 pm

I'm thinking of getting an AirFit F30i mask to wear temporarily because I've got a big red bump on the bridge of my nose from my AirFit F20 full face mask. I think it happened because I was using the memory foam cushion and it compressed because I didn't replace it soon enough. I switched back to the silicone cushion which is much better and the pain is gone, but still my big red welt is not going away, now I've had it for a month and I hope it isn't permanent.

I think I need a few weeks with a mask that doesn't touch the upper part of my nose bridge. I really like my AirFit F20 full face mask because the air comes in closer to my mouth, and it does not shoot air straight up my nostrils, so I plan to go back to that mask when my welt is healed.

So the AirFit F30i looks good in the photos, but I wonder how much it feels like a nasal mask. Besides the fact that I'm a mouth breather, I did not like nasal cushion masks blowing air directly in my nostrils. Those type of masks made my nostrils dry and sore (even with Lansinoh) and I did not enjoy the feeling. Also for me, it was more likely to have a nasal cushion mask start leaking loudly in the middle of the night because the position of the mask would get shifted, perhaps the holes would no longer be exactly centered on my nostrils or the angled changed or something like that.

I tried an Amara View mask and it was still too much air blowing in my nostrils, it is not comfortable for me. Is an AirFit F30i very similar to an Amara View or how are they different (for those who have tried both)? Does the AirFit F30i blow air directly into the nostrils to the same extent as Amara View?

I don't know how much I breathe out of my nose versus mouth during sleeping but I suppose it wouldn't be a good idea to cover up the nose holes somehow (with tape?) unless I get completely used to breathing only out of my mouth all night. I'm afraid when asleep I would try to breathe though my nose and wake up in a panic if I could not. Has anyone tried partially covering the nasal holes of a nose+mouth mask like the F30i to make them smaller?

I have the F30i. When I sleep on my side I find it "blows less air into my nostrils" than other FFMs including the DreamWear FFM and the other ResMed FFM similar to the F30i but without the top hose connection. They say that side sleeping with the F30i does not restrict air flow but I find that it does. YMMV

Thanks MurrayNevada. I'm going to order this mask.

If anyone has any hints on minimizing leaks with the AirFit F30i, I'd love to hear suggestions.
