Most doctors will write the prescription for "mask of patient's choice" so that people can easily go back and forth between all the various mask types and experiment however they like.
People shouldn't (and don't need to be) tied to a specific mask type unless they just want to be.
Remember any doctor, dentist, NP, PA who can legally write a RX, can write a script for "cpap mask of patient's choice" . It doesn't have to be a sleep doctor. Your PCP or GP or even a family friend doctor can write it.

Re: Help with bridge of nose?
Hi. I saw this thread and wanted to jump in with a question about bridge of nose issues and full face masks.
I want to try again to use the Res-med F-20 full face because I can't seem to stop breathing through my mouth - tried chin straps, headbands, you name it. Problem is that even putting on the F-20 for a few minutes cause pain at the top of my nose (bridge). Any advice?
Thanks!

Re: Help with bridge of nose?
It sounds like your mask is too tight across your nose. However, if that is not the case, you can try what I used to do: a small piece of moleskin across the bridge of the nose will keep the mask from rubbing it. You can find moleskin at drugstores in the foot care area. If this works, and you decide to continue using it, check on line for it. I used to buy it in rolls that were 15 feet long and two inches wide. I learned this trick from a therapist I worked with when I first started treatment five years ago.

I've had issues with nasal pillows too, it just seems that my thin from side to side, but "tall" nostrils just don't play well with nasal pillows. The smalls are too small and the medium is too big on at least 1 dimension. I find this to be a good alternative in fact I'm in love with it (it lies flat on your nose and also gives more freedom to roll around without knocking it off since the hose is on a swivel on the top of the head):

Heres a similar one that I can't vouch for from phillips:

Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"
