Hey guys

Post by Juggsy75 » Sat May 23, 2020 11:57 am

Hi all new member here, found I had SA with ahi of 15 after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, apparently there’s a strong connection between them, started using my Philips resumed about 3 years ago, don’t find it too bad if I’m honest, was getting good results of anywhere between 0.0 and 1.5 per night but mostly in zeros, decided to get fitter and lost three stone, my shift was tested again and was 8.0 which was great news, due to af I still used CPAP, however since Christmas my nightly numbers have been very very erratic, from low of 1.4 to a high of 12, with regular numbers in the 3’s and 4’s, my go to person in hospital has said don’t get hung up on the numbers as long as your not tired in mornings is fine, which I’m not happy about, also since Christmas I’ve had a new mast and tube, they’re same make but the new tube is thicker and more rigid than last not sure if it has any bearing....... yes I’ve put weight back on however my numbers weren’t this bad before and I’m concerned by the increase due to my irregular heartbeat, my original airflow rate was 6, I’ve upped it to 7 but no change, sorry for long post, any help greatfully appreciated

welcome to the zoo!

how many sentences WAS that?

please see the link in my sig below. the experts here are going to need a lot more info from you. so please read the newbie thread to get started. you'll also want to get the free software program, oscar.

we are each of us different and will thus need a different approach to therapy. so we'll need more info.

the first thing you can do, please, is go to your profile and fill in your equipment. once you do that, it will show up at the bottom of each post, as it does on mine below.

good luck!

ResMed and Phillips are 2 different companies...Like saying my car is a Ford Chevy. If you want suggestions, more information is needed. Go to the Control Panel and enter your specific machine and mask in your equipment profile. It will also be helpful for you to download the Oscar Software and post some data.

Apologies for the lack of info, I’ve looked at the profile and don’t see my machine there, it’s a Philips remstar pro c flex+ system one

It's not available in the equipment menu because that machine has been discontinued and is no longer offered for sale at cpap.com who host this forum and all equipment menu choices are tied to existing inventory at cpap.com.

Just add it manually to the comments section of your equipment profile. Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number...either 450 or 460 or 451 or 461
This is all you need to say.....Respironics System One Pro CPAP and that 3 digit model number whatever you see

Also...where are you located? What part of the world? Hospitals don't normally follow sleep apnea in the US but they do in other parts of the world (like the UK) and how we respond and offer advice depends on what is normally done in your area where you live.
Not everyone does everything like it is done here in the US.

I suspected UK.....they save money every chance they get because they have to. That's okay and understood and we can work with it.

It's a model machine that was discontinued several years ago and it is a fixed pressure only machine which isn't ideal but it's decent enough. It is at least is a full data machine.

It will work with OSCAR software.....so we need to at least start with the detailed software reports.

Good job on Oscar and your charts! What jumps out at me is that you did a whole lot better at 7 than 6. Could you post a screenshot of the Overview page, with the range set at Everything down at the bottom left, being sure to show AHI and pressure?

Don't pay attention to VS2. Apparently no one outside the PR organization knows what it actually measures. In fact, you can turn it off by going to File --- Preferences --- Events.

Hi thanks for the reply, I included my worst night over last month at 6 so not sure if it’s indicative as a few nights at 6 I’ve had lower than the 7

Little bit more info that may or may not help, I also have quite a severe deviated septum from playing rugby, I’ve been to see an ENT consultant who said fixing this won’t cure my sleep apnea so it’s not been sorted.
I also wake in night with mouth wide open and completely blocked nose so I’m obviously breathing through my mouth during the night, not sure if this beats any significance on my SA or not.
Also it seems my variable breathing is high, I’ve read that this is a sign of central sleep apnea, which worries me as I asked at the sleep clinic if I suffered from central or obstructive sleep apnea and I was told I suffer from obstructive, when asked how they knew they said it’s all in the machines data

Variable breathing has nothing to do with central apnea.
Now periodic breathing and/or CSR breathing...might have something to do with central apnea. Note I said "might".
Variable breathing doesn't equal periodic breathing. Two totally different things plus not all periodic breathing equals a problem anyway.

Thank you, just trying to get on top of my sleep apnea due to a fib, trying to get it low as I can to help

Those clear airway apnea events you see noted on your reports....those are central apneas.
It's normal to have a few here and there...no big deal and unless someone sees a lot of centrals (like 5 per hour every night average) they don't mean that people get a diagnosis of central apnea along with their obstructive apnea diagnosis.
We all have a few centrals here and there....entirely normal and no big deal and no cause for worry.
Your Central numbers are a long way from worrying about central apnea.
