Trying to understand Dreamstation humidifier

Post by Sleep2Dream » Fri May 22, 2020 8:19 pm

I am having trouble figuring out what, if anything, the humidifier is responding to, or if it is responding properly at all. I currently have my Dreamstation set to the highest heat (5) and highest humidity (5), because I was having issues with drier air blowing down on my soft palate. It's been fine for a while, and then last night I was drowning in rainout--I took the thing off after a little over 4 hours of sleep and slept without it for the rest of the night. Tonight is very humid, but I wasn't aware of last night being much different than the two nights before. What would cause the Dreamstation to suddenly be precipitating like crazy? I have been using this thing for over two years now, and after initially appreciating it, I am hating it more and more. I can deal with the variations in fit (or seal) that I experience, but this not knowing when I'll be dried out and when I'll drown is driving me a little bit crazy. Any advice would be welcome.

That does sound pretty miserable. If you live in a humid location, or if it's a humid time of year where you live, you may need to drop the humidity down a bit, maybe try 3 or 4 for a while.

Also, is your pap machine physically lower than your sleeping surface? It it's level with your bed or higher rainout is more likely. Some people put their machine on a side table's low shelf or in a drawer. That seems to work for many.

If not, hopefully some of our way more experienced folks will chime in with advice that does help.

I hope you find a good solution soon!

Condensation in the mask or hose explained here posts number 2 and 3 along with various ways of dealing with it.

Why did it happen last night and not before if nothing else has changed....well I suspect that the bedroom ambient temperature was a lot lower for some reason or other.
