climate line hose temp

Going out here on a limb and giving palerider and zonker a saw. After 1 1/2 years of cpap with lots of minor changes EPR, pressure, humidity, and masks my AHI was sitting around 3.4 with lots of centrals and Cheyne stokes. About a month ago trolling on Pugsy"s posts and she made a comment about decreasing the hose temp for summer. As I had never changed the hose temp I thought what the h*ll try it. I reduced the hose temp from 81F to 73F, I like a cool room so yes my nose is a little wet in the morning but no hose gurgling. So for the last month my AHI has been between 0.5 and 1.5 on a consistent basis, this tells me that it is not psychosomatic but something has changed ( no med changes or anything else ). So the moral for the ones that are struggling it can be the minor or strange changes that can make a difference.

truly, i have no skin in this particular game. i rarely comment on humidity or temperature. i look at it as a very personal thing.

many people will insist "if this, then that". but i have been going through my own tussle with this myself. since moving from arid flagstaff to damp northwest, i've been fiddling with me settings. just did so again last night as i've been running through what i consider too damned much water in my tank.

so my hats off to you.

now, if you mean that pr or i will bring up "just the facts, m'am" to argue that changing your hose temp/ humidity level can't have anything to do with lower ahi...

i'll just say that *I* believe in coincidences and let it go at that!


ETA: one of the things that sleep apnea has driven out for me is that i just don't sleep as well in the summer as i do in winter. i much prefer having a cool room and being burrowed under the covers!

As I said this is what happened to me, and waited a month before posting just to make sure it wasn't a one off. I agree that changing the hose temp should have no relevance or change. But as many have posted before it is a comfort thing. So if it makes you more comfortable maybe it does. Can't imagine trying to figure out what your body wants going from an arid climate to semi rain forest.

I agree with you. I have seen a couple of references where it states the ideal temperature for sleeping is between 60 and 67 degrees. The problem is, I hate to think about how much it would cost to cool my house down to that temperature every night. I do, however, bring it down to 70 degrees at night. Our local electric company has a program called smart hours that runs from June 1 through the end of September where off peak usage of electricity is about half of the regular rate. The rates during peak hours varies from day to day depending on what the projected demand is going to be. This way, I cool it down at night which means it is later in the morning before my air conditioner runs the next day. Even though we got up to around 80 degrees yesterday, my air conditioner did not kick on until well past noon.

Also...anything that we can do that will or can improve our sleep quality and impact the AHI through potential reduction in SWJ false positive flagged events.
The actual impact on the airway and sleep apnea itself may not be tied to hose air temp or humidity or whatever.....but what we do to make ourselves more comfortable so we sleep more soundly can and will show up in the AHI numbers.

So simply being more comfortable and sleeping more soundly or better or longer or whatever....will also impact those numbers.

I don't do well when I am too hot. Probably leftover from the active menopause time in my life where hot flashes were just with me 24/7 and that's why I reduce the hose air temp in the summer. I simply don't simply so great when I am too hot from anything.
Inhaling a bit cooler air seems to help.

Whatever works folks...that's what counts no matter what it is or why it does it. Everyone is different and it's up to each person to figure out what the keys are in their own body for optimal sleep quality. No matter whether they have OSA or not.

I don't really care for the swampy muggy feeling of the air in the winter but it's less annoying than getting a cold shower from condensation blowing out the vent holes and reducing the humidity being delivered is something that my nasal mucosa have already showed me they don't like with some pretty nasty allergy like symptoms....so I pick the less annoying way of doing things.

Sometimes we just have to make some compromises. I fall asleep quickly so the warm swampy muggy feeling isn't nearly as big of an issue as the alternative might be.
