How to convert my current pressure setting to try out full time EPR?

Post by ronragus » Thu May 14, 2020 2:46 pm

Hi all,

I currently have my apap set to min 8.0 max 8.8 with EPR 3 set to auto-ramp only. I want to try to switch to EPR full time mode (probably dial down to EPR 1 to start, and try EPR 2 next if needed) see if I would notice any improvement in maintaining a longer sleep session- how would I need to adjust my pressure setting to off-set the EPR setting then?

If going to full time EPR 1 setting, I need to dial my pressure up to min 9.0 and max 9.8?
If going to full time EPR 2 setting, I need to dial my pressure up to min 10.0 and max 10.8?

Thank you!

You may or may not need to adjust the minimum. Not everyone has to automatically increase the minimum if they elect to use EPR.
It all depends on if the minimum you are using is right at the lower boundary where a small drop might allow apnea events to happen or not.

Some people want to automatically adjust the minimum upwards to compensate for the drop during exhale but I am one who normally prefers to wait and see if it's actually needed before I make that adjustment.

What I normally would do is just add in EPR and watch the AHI and if the obstructive components of the AHI increase much...then I would make an adjustment in the minimum pressure. If no real increase in AHI then I would do nothing.

Max of 20, and yes, you'd add whatever EPR numbers to your minimum.
