Inspire - seeing commercials....thoughts??
Inspire - seeing commercials....thoughts??
Hey everyone,
I just started seeing commercials regularly for this.
https://www.inspiresleep.com/
I have to say, the thought of not having to wear a mask and not have to have a pillow barrier between hubby and I for air venting is sooooooo nice! Thoughts?
Does it work BETTER than cpap?
How long will that implant work? Forever?
What are the risks?
Drawbacks?
Thank you!

Read the initial (first) post of that thread carefully.
Then, read it again.
Repeat until you are motivated to use your cpap.
Without wishing for something "better".
At this time, it is but a dream, made a mockery by charlatans.

No, it's not better than cpap. It's an alternative for people who can't seem to tolerate cpap.
Not to mention there is very certain critical criteria someone must meet in terms of where their airway tissues collapse that must be met to be even considered for the procedure. I had a good friend who did try to see if she could quality for it and she didn't meet criteria. They don't just take anyone because they don't like to use a cpap.
This is a cpap forum. If someone has had the Inspire procedure done they aren't likely going to be hanging around here.
Every now and then someone drops by to sell it but they don't hang around.
If you want to consider it the person to be talking to first is your doctor and see if you can get in touch with some place that is doing it and be checked out to see if you meet the criteria....and at that time ask all the questions you have.
But it's not better than cpap....it's for those that fail cpap.

Thoughts? switch to a mask with a diffused vent, or diffuse the one you have.
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

They do always make it seem so peachy. But reality can be very different.

Re: Inspire - seeing commercials....thoughts??
Last fall I was a panelist for the American Sleep Apnea Association conference in San Francisco. One of my fellow panelists uses this kind of device (not remembering if it was the Inspire or not). You can watch her video here where she demonstrates it: https://youtu.be/pozyDRaE-LI It was more successful than CPAP for her, made a profound difference in her cognitive function.
I think it's one of those "your mileage may vary" type things. It works great for some people, terrible for others. If you're interested, do a LOT of research on who is most likely to be successful. Talk to multiple people who have it--people who have been happy with it AND people who have not. Consider the cost and how you would feel about the cost if it turns out to unsuccessful for you.
When you talk to a doctor or the company, make sure you have them define their terms e.g. "success rate". What exactly does that mean? Your idea of what it means may not be the same.
Most people on this forum have worked hard to have success with CPAP and are not the type to submit to expensive surgery and devices. So don't take the negativity here as gospel (people aren't likely to post success on a CPAP forum, but very likely to post failure with the devide), but also don't take one or two positive opinions as gospel either. Research, research, research.
