I am working on designs that make my face look slimmer.

I am learning to do more things remotely.
I am also learning that I do not miss crowds AT ALL.
But that is just me.
I could become a hermit, but I understand many others cannot.

I don't disagree. You might have missed this post above "The new stats show 24 percent of ICU beds statewide are available and a majority of the patients in the ICU right now are non-COVID-19 patients."

"A research team including Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (Winship) radiation oncologists and medical intensivists (critical care physicians) has initiated a highly innovative trial to treat COVID-19 patients with low dose chest radiation therapy (LD-RT), with the goal of reducing the pulmonary inflammation that severely affects these patients and threatens their ability to breathe on their own.
...
The investigators were inspired by the historical use of low dose chest radiation to treat pneumonia 100 years ago, citing research from the early1900s that demonstrated improved survival as high as 90 percent in treating patients with pneumonia in the pre-antibiotic era. Khan and Hess say the research also shows that pneumonia patients got better within a few days of receiving low dose chest radiation."

That's not the only reason. The slower the spread, the more time is available to learn how to use existing methods to treat and to develop new products for treatment. I sure would rather have the infection two years from now as compared to having it tomorrow. The whole point of the lockdown was to slow the spread (flatten the curve) so that hospitals will not be overwhelmed.
Present bed availability is irrelevant. Just wait.
Thank you! I wish more people understood this. I also hope that this pandemic reminds people of how important some human occupations are, as opposed to others: I think we have more than enough entertainers (especially of the "internet" kind), advertisers/data collectors, speculative financial brokers, merchants/traders, attorneys, law enforcement, military, etc. But we do not have enough (and/or their hands are tied) of resource developers (I include agriculture in the mix), manufacturers, scientists/educators, medical/healthcare workers, including mental health and social workers, and so on (in no particular order). It is all about balance and I don't think it is nearly balanced today. I hope this pandemic produces at least a small shift in thinking in the positive direction.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 4:55 pmThat's not the only reason. The medical profession has already learned a lot about how to treat patients and will continue learning. We might even have a highly effective and quick treatment in two years.

me, too. though i can't help but worry about the negative things that lay ahead. but i'm trying to stay positive. and having the black lives matter protests start yielding positive changes in law enforcement and elsewhere is, well, positive.

We shall see. They said we would see this huge wave at the end of March then they pushed it back to April, then they said oops well we stopped it, then they said it will happen if we open back up. May 15th we opened no spike two weeks later. Here we are in the middle of June and some are still insisting its coming. In the meantime those people on the beaches having fun are going to kill grandma but those rioting are being joined by some of our idiot political leaders.

Nah. I think you're a caring person.
Good news! We decided to do something about it. Early yesterday morning, we got up, ate a little cereal and milk, and a banana. At dawn, we drove to a nearby nature preserve. It's heavily wooded and has a long trail that runs along a lake. The trail is mostly through the heavy woods, but several times it dips down to nice views on the lake. We were early enough that we only saw a handful of people, mostly runners. You really feel like you are in the wilderness.
