CPAPtalk a definite

Post by Ennaej » Sun Mar 22, 2020 6:23 pm

I was on my husband about how he needed to wear his CPAP. He was pig headed and said it was uncomfortable and he wouldn’t wear it. I said him not using it put a lot of stress on his heart. Long story short he got h1n1 flu and sepsis and died. He left me and two beautiful children with out him. I really do feel that not using his cpap stressed his heart and was a factor in his death.

Welcome to the forum.
I am so sorry that it had to be under such sad circumstances for you.
Untreated sleep apnea stresses the entire body and we all know that stress in general can lower our immune system's ability to fight off any illness.

I know of a guy right now not wanting to use cpap because it hasn't helped his fatigue levels like he wants it to help....but I just told him today to look at it as a preventative measure....preventing something bad happening even if it doesn't help with the fatigue like he wants it to. Using cpap at least lessens some stress on the body that can be reduced and thus give the body a fighting chance to fight off bugs or viruses or prevent that stroke that comes up short and leaves us a vegetable.

I take a BP pill to keep my blood pressure in check so I don't have a stroke or something. I use cpap for the same reason...give my body the best chance of being strong and able to fight off whatever might come my way. It's just another preventative measure to help our body stay as strong as possible.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

My condolences to you and your children.

CPAP is difficult for most people to tolerate, so its understandable that your husband didnt want to wear it. I too have ditched it a few times when struggling with mask leaks that were keeping me awake more than the apneas. So perhaps do forgive him.

These are trying times for all of us with this virus making the rounds. I think quite a few of us are also immune compromised from lack of decent sleep.
