Tumbleweed:
I think that it is really unfortunate that you and the other Dr. have felt bashed. No one wants to feel bashed or disrespected, especially when they are trying to be helpful. In their own way, all of the people on this forum are trying to be helpful.

I can't help but wonder, however, how often doctors think that they are entitled to some extra measure of respect simply because they are a Dr., but, unfortunately, they don't see those around them as being automatically worthy of the same degree of respect.

Many of them do have good knowledge, don't get me wrong, but they lack the ability to understand all the physiology and medical basis behind it.

Just my personal observation, but that sounds remarkably like so many of the Dr's with whom I work. It seems that Dr's. are trained to think of themselves as so gifted that even the rarified air that they breath is above that which can be understood by the common man. And, unless one is a Dr., one could not possibly understand such things as physiology or a "medical basis" behind it. I wonder how all the nurses, technologists, medical researchers, etc., would feel about that perspective.

I wonder how often a Dr. feels offended by a patient challenging his/her assessment/treatment. Patients are learning that it is the patient him/herself who is ultimately responsible for health and treatment. I think that some Dr's are inclined to suffer ego-injury pretty easily when a patient dares to be informed or, even to seek too much information.

Doctors are folk that we can't be without. Their knowledge and skill is so needed. However, no matter how well trained, any Dr. is helped by a patient who is as committed to care as the Dr. is and; commitment to care can be an artifact of education. An educated patient is desired. When my patients are well educated, it makes my job easier and helps me to provide best treatment.

Sorry that you feel offended, and I am hopeful that you don't leave the forum. You should be as welcomed here as the next person and, you should not be pilloried for being a Dr. If, however, you are hoping for a status that is different from anyone else, you will find that there are folk here who won't give it.

Hi Tumbleweed!

Who among us is without blame? I don't claim righteousness, nor do I feign righteous indignation. However, I do claim the right to defend myself when necessary.

Tumbleweed, you might take note of the fact that drbandage was never intimidated in the least by my presence on this forum. Nor was he the least bit shy in criticizing me, ridiculing me, taunting me, lambasting me, and castigating me. From the very first time I attempted to have a conversation with him, he laid into me and never let up, despite the fact that I offered sincere apologies. He even went after me under pseudonyms.

He was having way too much fun "pummelling" me (his characterization, not mine) for anyone to now claim that I drove him from this board.

Being the simple person I am, I posed simple questions to him which he could not respond honestly to. Rather than attempt an honest response, he simply resorted to feigning righteous indignation and hurling massive personal assaults.

Just my perspective, of course.

Regards,
Bill

Well I'm young enough to be enjoying my retirement!

NHE..... it was you who was the cause of my shutting down, just as you have now done to drbandage. Maybe you should just quit being so damn confrontational and take in what we have to offer. Not a single one of us claims to know everything. Just take what we doctors say here in the same light as anything on the net. YES, what we say is OUR OPINIONS, we do not say it is the absolute. A medical opinion is just that...... it is based on our experience, training and knowledge. Much of that is not available to the general public. Let everyone decide the validity of what we say for themselves. I am REAL sorry you have had some apparent bad experiences with MD's and/or DME's, but again, you seem to be taking it out on one of the most interesting posters to come along in here in a long time. Believe what he says or not...... FOR YOURSELF. Let the others decide for THEMSELVES. What makes your opinions any more valid? Just that you are better than many at expressing yourself? I will not argue this anymore with you.......... been there, done that. You don't like what we say? Then don't read it!

To everyone else at this board, I am sorry for the outburst........
Some of us do not have the thick skin. Some of us are all about being sensitive. That is one of the things that makes a compasionate doctor, and I will not change my ethics or morals for anyone. I will miss drb's thoughtful posts and insights and I think this board has lost a good friend. I am done with this matter.....
