CPAP humidifier not working and I have dried nasal mucous in my nose

Post by fuchsia » Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:46 am

I have a Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP that is two years old with a regular, non-heated tube. I also just switched recently to Philips Respironics Nuance Pro nasal pillows. For four days now, my heated humidifier has not been working. When I wake up in the morning, the water tray is still completely full, and the heating plate is only slightly warm. I have checked and rechecked, including on the secret clinician's menu, and and the humidity setting is set to 3 out of 5. It has never done this before. What's more, it is winter here, so the atmosphere should be dry. The weather lists the humidity in my area as 47% now at 8:45 AM. It is dry, and we have had no rain or snow in a few months.

Also, since I switched to nasal pillows with a pressure of 13-15 cm H2O, I have large dried nasal mucous in my nose that I have to blow out in the mornings. This rarely happened when I used a full-face mask. Is this normal?

. . .
The weather lists the humidity in my area as 47% . . .
"The weather" is measured OUTDOORS--not indoors, in your home,
which will be much lower due to central heating.
Have your heated humidifier checked, and consider using a room humidifier in your bedroom.
Saline spray (like Ocean) can help as well.

Thanks for the info. I guess I might have too, or check my CPAP machine.
