ResMed AirFit F30 & F30i- fit questions

Post by Have2CBRs » Mon Feb 10, 2020 10:57 pm

I wanted the F30i, but the supplier didn’t have them in stock. So I am using the F30 until the F30i arrives. When trying on different masks to choose one; I heard her say I’d wear a small because my nostrils don’t flare out. She never used a fit guide. Tho the nose part is ok, the height is not. (I don’t think anyway). The bottom of the opening starts out on the edge of my bottom lip. I continuously wake up with the bottom of the mask inside my mouth. Slipstream nights it leaks and unbelievably sometimes it does not register that it’s leaking. I get up at least 3 times a night and pull the bottom strap tighter and start all over. So tight, that it is painful and feels like it is cutting into me just under my bottom lip!
I’m hoping someone here can tell me if this mask is too small. I want the F30i, because the first mask I tried (dreamware) had the air intake on top of my head and never got in my way. Whereas, this front air intake on the F30 has gotten caught on my nighstand, under one of my many pillows, around my dog’s head (hehehe), etc.
I’m hoping someone here can Also tell me if the molded nose part on the F30i will accommodate my ‘un-flared nostrils’ nose (tho I can flare my nostrils, relaxed they appear nearly closed.:). - especially if I need to go to a medium.
My insurance will only cover trying 3 different masks (I Hope size changes don’t count!) and the F30i will be my 3rd.
Fwiw, I did try the full mask type and it actually squeezed my nose shut so I could t breathe thru my nose at all, however , at the time, I did not realize the mask came in different sizes and the supplier didn’t mention it when I told her why I didn’t like the full mask.
While I’m at it...... I just saw that a 5 minute cpap cleaning kit exists. Is it worth it? Does it do a good job and easy enough to use?
Thank you all in advance. Any other advice is also appreciated.

Christy

I don't think your insurance cares how many masks you "try". They are only concerned with how many they are charged for. I think it is the DME that made that rule. They are the ones that determine how many they are willing to let you try. Some DMEs are very flexible and some are very strict.

Exactly what are you wanting to clean? Most masks should be washed in soap (Dawn dishwashing liquid) and water. The hose rarely needs cleaning. I've used mine for several years without cleaning. If you keep a clean filter in the machine, the machine doesn't need cleaning except to dust it off.

What is in the "kit"?

5 minute kit is a mini poisonous gas (ozone) generator.
You can void your warranty for a third as much money.

If the "kit" has anything to do with ozone or activated oxygen....avoid it.
ResMed has taken a particular stance about those type of cleaning devices.
Read about it here.
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... letter.pdf

Not only can ozone potentially damage the machine itself and void your warranty.....it will also prematurely age your hoses and masks...shorten the life span and look a yucky orange yellowish color to boot. DMEs love this as it means they get to sell you more stuff and make more money.

Thanks guys!
Re: cleaning kit
I’m glad I didn’t even take the time to look into the cleaning kit further then the ad I saw!

Re: insurance
Interesting. Supplier is one that told me insurance would only cover 3. I’ll be sure to talk to my doc if my new mask isn’t the one. I picked up the F30i today! In a medium. Tried it on, adjusted it, ran the fit test. Much better! I guess the next few nights will tell all.

Based on all of your comments, I’m guessing this will be my final choice anyway!

During my in home sleep apnea ‘test’, I had 48 events per hour, lasting 50-58 seconds each. The past few weeks, Ive had 10-12 events per hour, but I can’t find that it says how long those events lasts.
Hiwever, my most recent number of events waS 7! Can I expect that number to continue to go down?

DMEs often make up their own in house rules about stuff and blame it on "your insurance".
They probably want to limit the number of mask trials. They don't lose money though...insurance pays for one mask per the allowance period...the others the mask manufacturers will give the DME credit for.

What machine model are you using? Some models show AHI only and don't offer duration of events but other models offer more detailed data.
