Power Supply question

Post by Arcturus » Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:48 pm

Hey All,

My dad is using a System One Resprionics CPAP. We have lost the power cord.

Could someone please explain the difference between an off the shelf laptop power supply that supplies 12volts DC @ 5 amps vs the original power supply that supplies the same amount of voltage and current?

I spent at least two hours on the phone with various suppliers, and even the manufacturer and no one could tell what the difference is. Besides a major cost difference.

Some CPAP power cords emit a proprietary signal and the machine will "refuse" to work without that signal.

Assuming that this is not the case for your machine, it "should" work if the DC voltage output is the same, the wattage is adequate, and the fitting at the end of the cord is identical (it might look the same and go in, but there can be a nuanced difference).

There are two different lines of 'system one' machines, and they take a different power supply.

Differences? for one thing, voltage.

Just buy a new one on ebay or amazon. https://www.amazon.com/KFD-Respironics- ... 142&sr=8-6

The voltage and amperage output were the same for both the laptop and the original power supply. In fact, I could even go higher on the AMPERAGE output of the laptop power supply if I wanted to. Which in essence, would be more stable. The p/s for the CPAP supplies 80 watts, the laptop p/s supplies 150 watts.

OP hasn't said whether it's a 50 series or a 60 series, as far as I've seen.
