Do you think I should get another sleep study?

Post by Tigerlily » Fri Jan 24, 2020 11:39 pm

Hey everyone,
I have been on cpap for just about 7 years now, just shortly after being diagnosed.
I have been fairly fatigued for a while now. I'm not sure if my apnea is worse or not or if something else is causing my fatigue. I used to use Sleepyhead to keep track of how I was sleeping, but now I have NO CLUE what is going on since I have no program to use with my machine. :(
I'm considering a sleep study, but I think I will have to pay for most of it, so that has me wondering if it is really necessary.....
If I should get one, what about a home study vs. a night in a sleep clinic? Are home studies just as good and reliable?

Thank you!!

Why can't you still use SleepyHead? It still works and is still available.

Or you can just get OSCAR which is based on SleepyHead.

OSCAR https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/
http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... stallation
http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... rpretation

It looks and acts like SleepyHead and it should work with your machine just fine.

Get a medical once-over to rule out other stuff.
Lots of fatigue can be unrelated to our apnea.

I thought it wasn't working anymore. Maybe mine got corrupted. I will have to have hubby re-install. I know nothing about Oscar. Which one is better?

For sure! I do have other things like hypothyroidism and hormonal imbalance that can cause fatigue.

If I can get a software program on my computer again to check my sleep I will know more about what is going on.

Do most people who have sleep apnea get follow-up sleep studies down the road or not?

SleepyHead is dead in the sense that it won't be updated anymore so once new machines are released that it won't work with become the norm people will have to use something else.

OSCAR is based off SleepyHead 1.1 version. When it was seen that SleepyHead wouldn't be updated anymore some people got together and took the open source files from SleepyHead and started a new program based on SleepyHead....OSCAR
Since it's based on SleepyHead I think that you will have a hard time telling the difference between the 2 programs.

You might as well get OSCAR. It is faster in everything it does and while it is still new and Beta...has fewer bugs than SleepyHead and at least people are working on fixing those bugs.

In terms of not feeling so great.....what medications are you taking?

Thanks. Can you point me to the place that explains how to get OSCAR?

The only meds I take are natural dessicated thyroid and T3. I take quite a few supplements.

I don't think your "do I need another sleep study" questioned was answered. In my opinion.... no. Tho you may be having other issues, the cpap machine is taking care of the cpap issues you have. A sleep study may point toward other ailments. Download OSCAR and post a "typical" night for you here and let us have a look see. To me, if you are doing all you can do with a machine... you probably have another medical condition that causing your issues. Plus, if you see a doc about your issues, having a OSCAR copy of a few nights will help the doc (if he knows what he is looking at) and save time.

A home sleep study won't reveal much a CPAP machine and an $80 pulse-oximeter won't reveal.
I'm in an HMO and a referral for an inlab sleep study is only made if there is reason to believe that you have issues that won't be resolve with a CPAP an BiLevel machine.(The machine is cheaper then the study).

Follow the instructions re posting, and do maybe 2-3 days for now, but leave off the calendar and pie charts on the left - though do add the needed info below them and the graphs - it's all there.
