Cervical collar or neck brace?

Post by warp3456 » Fri Jan 24, 2020 9:08 am

I just thought I would start a new thread on this subject.but thought it would be worth sharing. I have read numerous posts on people who improved their ahi with neck collar and some who couldn't tolerate the collar here is a new device .I have contacted the company to ask if it works the same as a neck collar I am awaiting a reply. I am thinking of trying it to keep my neck straight and mouth closed and it would be easier to tolerate in a hot climate like Thailand etc. advise appreciated and opinions.. link .

A device that merely keeps the chin from lowering does not necessarily prevent the neck and head from moving side to side or backward, as can a full-surround cervical orthosis device. It is often the movement of the neck and head backward that causes restriction in the upper airway, as you can experience for yourself by simply leaning your neck and head back while awake and noticing the change in your breathing.

I have found that occasional focused lucidity serves as the best way to punctuate and accentuate the pervasive anarchic insanity of my general forum persona.

Yeah. Whatever that means. Right? :wink: :lol: :P

Either that, or one of the other apnea boards has hacked my account. You be the judge.

This is similar to the Dr. Dakota in that it also doesn't provide back or side support. I'm using the Dakota & it works well for me. Since it doesn't seem to be available anymore, this looks interesting. But, it also doesn't look very sturdy. :?: :?:

I just get the cheap ones from Amazon. They last long enough, I guess, like 3 or months. I like the stiffer ones. Sorry I cant recommend a specific brand.

The only issues I have with cervical collars usage is:

1. My teeth aren't properly aligned and having my mouth shut all night makes me aware of it and maybe I need braces;

2.it works most all of the time to keep mouth leaks to a minimum but sometimes it doesn't work and I tape with durapore tape. Not micropore, the benefit of the collar is that I dont have to use the microphone that damages my skin; and

3. Sometimes I get a stiff neck.
