A new APAP (either Resmed or Respironics) in the US will run you in the $700 to $900 range, including the humidifier. Therefore, I would not buy a used one for almost as much!

I picked up a Respironics Auto in good condition to use when traveling for $15 at a garage sale. Got a ResMed S9 Autoset for my wife on a local online auction for I believe it was $26. It had just over 100 hours on it. There are good buys out there if you know what to look for. One of the best places are estate sales.
People will post used CPAPs on Craigslist and ask $300 or more for a unit several generations old. They think because it cost $1000 new it should still be worth nearly that much. Often you can contact them and explain the facts and they will come way down on the price.
