Re: NEW ResMed AirFit F30i full face mask

I used the F30i last night and it was super comfortable but am seeing some odd results.

1) Oscar is basically showing leaks basically the whole time I was using the mask

2) The machine (AirCurve 10 VAuto) is showing no leak

3) MyAir is showing leaks

How does one reconcile the discrepancies? I did a fit test before I went to sleep and it was all green for a few minutes before I ended the test. I'm happy to tweak the fit of the mask, but if the fit test is showing fine, I'm not sure what to do.

I think I know what you are seeing ......the baseline leak graph isn't on 0.0....is that correct?
Can you post a screen shot?

Well it isn't what I thought. It's real mask fitting leaks...I suspect it is moving around a bit with normal changing in sleeping position or something.

What makes you say

Is it because you still see Mr Smiley for leak management on the LCD screen?
Did you know you see Mr Smiley until you are over the red line threshold for 30% or more of the night?
Despite all your leak here...adds up to only 25% which is of course less than 30% so you get Mr Smiley.
One of the reasons I don't think much of using Mr Smiley as a guide....but if I see someone reporting Mr Frowny for leak management then I know things are REALLY bad in terms of leak management.

Typical first night mask fitting issues...takes a few nights with probably very minor tweaks in the headgear adjustments to get it where it won't slide around as much when you move around.
I have never had a first night with any mask that didn't involve some tweaking of the headgear a bit except for the Bleep of course....no headgear.
Typically 3 to 5 nights of tweaking have been needed when I try a new mask.

I see the green Mr. Smiley on the screen from last night's data, never converted to red, so your explanation makes sense. It seems MyAir should be consistent with that, but it doesn't really matter (benefits of the full data). This is actually the first time I've had fit issues, lucky I guess. I'll play a bit over the next few nights to see if I can get this worked out. This mask seems worth it. I do wonder if I got the right sizing, so I'll spend a little time looking at that as well.

As always, I appreciate your help!!

MyAir only goes by the leak numbers and not percent of time in large leak.
Mr Smiley isn't a good guideline for anyone and wouldn't be for MyAir either.
Even the numbers themselves don't always tell the whole story.
About the only thing the faces are useful for on the machine....Mr Frowny because we know when he shows up things are most likely in the toilet for sure. Mr Smiley showing up doesn't really mean much.

First night with the Resmed Airfit F30i. Standard frame/wide cushion.

I have been using a P10 for almost a year so I knew the transition to the F30i would be challenging. It was.
I had a restless night (I always have restless nights, but that is a different story) this was more than usual and expected.
My leaks were; 1 Large leak for 4 seconds. Ha! I have to use a mouth gag with the P10 to get anywhere near that.
I have a full beard. No liner, with a soft cervical collar.

For a first night the mask was comfortable. Better than the only other full face I have tried (F20 silicone). The fit was good for me.
Really like the top hose connection. Unsnap the elbow from the frame when you need to separate from the hose and machine for whatever reason. Very easy to unconnect and connect. Breathing was free and unrestrictive. Venting is at the disconnect elbow and front of the mask angled slightly downward. Very quiet for my old ears.

I feel good this morning and am doing my morning exercise/weight lifting while writing this review between sets. :D

I am going to give this mask a week of nights test to be sure, but I think this is going to be my new go to mask (until a better one comes out).

jimbud and gmsmith, how did y'all guess at what frame size to order? Or did DME do a fitting to make sure size was correct?

For me, I'm a big guy and I use the F30, so I used that as a starting point. I went standard frame, wide cushion. It feels really good but seems like I need to tweak the fit a bit.

Like gmsmith, I just made a judgement call from having used the P30I standard/large pillow and the F20 large.
Ordered the Resmed Airfit F30i Standard frame/wide cushion from https://www.cpap.com/ and the rest is history. If it does not fit https://www.cpap.com/ will let you return it within 30 days.
So you can't really miss. Send it back and get the right size. If the frame is good and the cushion isn't, order the right cushion from https://www.cpap.com/. Like Pugsy said "You can save the wrong cushion and maybe you can trade to someone on here for their wrong cushion". :D Or something like that. :?

Thanks jimbud and gmsmith. I sure like my Airtouch F20 that has the memory foam cushion but I like trying out new things.

Does the mask vent as strong as the Amara View? The vent hole arrangement looks similar but the Amara View vents around top of the nose instead of around the lip area.

here's a pic from pugsy's first post in the thread-

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -face-mask

zoom in and you can see where it vents.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Some information from ResMed's page on the F30i which has some videos available
https://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/p ... -f30i.html

User guide
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... er_eng.pdf

sales brochure with some pics
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... er_eng.pdf

and the infamous fitting guide for cushion sizing
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... ch_eng.pdf
I haven't found any information as to sizing of the frame itself though
