Struggling

Post by Becksta » Sat Jan 18, 2020 8:18 pm

9 months into usage, AHIs less than 2 most nights, min pressure 8 ( I have increased to 9 based on the replies to another thread here), still waiting for energy to happen. I make it through a sedentary workday and get home needing a nap before struggling out with the dog for 20 minutes. Any form of physical work, housework, attempting to paint parts of the outside of the house, need an hour or more recovery on the sofa, barely able to lift an arm. Heart is fine. Was on anti depressants and have successfully come off those two months ago.
Have not a clue how to go about getting data to post, will look into that.

prolly due to the fact that your therapy isn't optimized for you.

if you see the "newbie" thread that i have linked in the bottom of my post, it will get you going.

if you have any trouble with the software, please let us know so we can help you. being tired is certainly something that lingers on for some time. but for 9 months in, well that's kind of a flag that something needs to be done.

congrats on taking matters into your own hands. you can do this. it can get better. show us those numbers!

good luck!

CPAP can help with obstructive sleep apnea. It cannot cure crappy sleep caused by other things.

this is very true.

but it's still good to attempt to treat the apnea before we blame anything else.

Well, bugger me, my darn PC does not have an SD card slot. Off to the shop to get me an SD card reader.

My laptop didn’t either! Getting the SD reader is a great investment.

Okay, so I have carefully followed the (very good I must say) instructions, here's hoping I did a good enough job... This should be the last night I had my minimum pressure at 8, 2 nights ago. I will post last nights shortly to see if there is any difference (I know I need to wait a week or so for good data, but this is exciting!)

aaaand here is the first night on 9 min pressure... they sure do come through bigger than I thought, but I guess that is easier for my aging eyes - unless it is too big? I can reduce I do believe :)

aaaand now I'm getting carried away... thought this would be an interesting comparison though. Started using the CPAP in May last year, a few hiccups to begin with as a week after getting it I was on a 5 weeks overseas trip... made for some interesting times. So, by mid-September I thought I would have been getting used to it. The graph seems to say other wise - it looks pretty messy to my untrained eye. Having done a random sample each month since then, they all look a lot the same until we get to January this year, when it starts looking more like the first two here. Which, again to my unbtrained eye, look a lot better. The only thing that is really different since early December is that I finally weaned myself off anti-depressants, after being on them for 3 years. I did it over about 3 months, Sept to early Dec. Even taking that much time (about twice as long as most peeps do) I had some pretty hairy moments in early December. Anyways, don't kow if that will make any difference, but any assistance in 'reading' these would be grand.

I'll give it a run:

- Is there a reason you are on CPAP mode and not Autopap? There is really no right or wrong answer.
- May I ask how old you are?
- Seem your therapy improved as your pressure was increased.
- Your leak rates are acceptable.

Many folks search for an "ah-ha" moment in cpap therapy and some folk's improvement is so gradual and occurs over many years of therapy, they feel that no improvement ever existed. It may take many years to repair the damage sleep apnea has done to your body. We all (including me) want to feel better as we do it.
To me, there seems to be other issues you may have with fatigue and the "barely lift my arm" thang'. I'd see the doctor on those things. There's something else going on here.

First thing I'd do is switch over to autoset mode, min 7, max 20 on the pressure, and see what the machine can do to reduce your AHI.

My current AHI is less than 1 (see first two charts) the third chart with AHI of 4+ was from September last year (dates on the bottom of the chart) I popped that one in as a comparison to now, so was thinking my AHI is not too bad currently?
