Did you pay out of pocket for this machine or use your insurance?
How much?
Out of pocket unfortunately. $650. Damn I feel like a dumbass. Wish I'd have found this forum a bit earlier.
"Education" can be expensive sometimes........
But, there are many sources for acquiring lightly-used machines. Many on the forum have used this place:

I second that suggestion.
A lightly used top of the line machine beats the heck out of a brand new bare bones model.
When health is considered, the line between necessary and luxury needs to be reconsidered.

Very true. I appreciate the links and advice. Looks like I'll be spending a little more $ than anticipated. Oh well.

Where did you buy the new machine from? Local brick and mortar store....online....privately?
If a local brick and mortar store they might swap it out for a little more money as long as you don't use it too much.
Some online cpap suppliers allow returns.....some don't.
Privately....you are pretty much for sure stuck with it.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

Online. No returns once opened policy. $650 lesson. Certainly not the most expensive lesson I've had to learn. My plan is to try and get the PR system one repaired, order the Dreamstation auto 500 model, and inquire how much I can sell the Dreamstation 200 model to second wind CPAP, since I noticed they buy used machines.

Your new humidifier will work with the model DSX500 DreamStation...so no need to buy another humidifier.
Your local craigslist or similar place might be a good option for selling the half assed brick minus the humidifier.
In the meantime if you could give me ALL the settings you see on the half assed brick (including any Flex settings) as well as all the setting on the old PR S1 machine (including Flex)...I can compare to see if I see something small that might account for the big difference in the AHI.
Sounds like maybe you might have been using auto mode on the PR S1 and the machine likely could go higher and did...and with the new machine it can't go higher and thus it is likely allowing apnea events to occur.
All this is assuming the bulk of your AHI is obstructive and not central.
Just don't have any way of knowing without knowing exactly what settings were used on the old machine...but it sounds like you were in auto mode and of course there is no auto mode on the new machine.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

That makes total sense about the auto setting. I've gotta run a few errands but as soon as I get back home I'll post all the relevant settings info that I can see, from both machines. Thanks!

If you don't know how to get into the clinical setup menu where you can see all the various setting options this link has quick viewing instructions for both models.

You have to know the secret handshake to see the good stuff.

Well crap, that brilliant idea didn't pan out.
Obviously essentially the same settings. I don't see the minor difference in Flex causing the big AHI difference.
Can you get me an OSCAR report from the System One? Just the most recent detailed report? Does it have a SD card in the slot?
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html
If you go to DreamMapper...I know you get the generic AHI...does it by chance offer the total number of obstructive apneas, hyponeas or clear airway apneas anywhere in the daily report?
With the new machine....are you spending much time awake with mask and machine on? Lots of wake ups or problems going to sleep?

Dreammapper is just the generic report only unfortunately. Gonna upload to OSCAR from SD Card and will post in a few. Thanks.
Edit: I have woken up more with the new machine and noticed my mouth was dry, but fell back asleep quickly.

Do I need to post the tab marked "daily" "overview" or "statistics"?

Not sure if this is the detailed report. If not let me know and I'll post what you need. Thanks!

Well another brilliant idea that didn't pan out. I was thinking maybe that big leaks were hiding events on the System One.
But you aren't having any leak issues at all.
So...answer to the sleep quality question please...much awake time at all using mask and machine with the new DreamStation?
