Changing from fixed to auto on BiPap Dreamstation?
I have a prescription for a BiPap machine with a pressure setting of 12/8 CWP utilizing BiF-Lex level 3. I was hoping to purchase the Philips Respironics DreamStation BiPAP® Auto Machine. It looks like my prescription is for a fixed rate mode. If I purchase this machine will I also be allowed to try it on the auto mode? Or is it locked in somehow to the fixed rate mode only? Thank you for your time. Also, I apologize if this is a super obvious question to everyone in this forum.

Welcome to the forum.
If you can buy the DreamStation Auto BiPap machine there are 3 modes available.
Fixed cpap mode.
Fixed bilevel mode.
Auto Adjusting bilevel mode.
Since your prescription is for fixed pressures the supplier will most likely set it to fixed pressure but if you can get the Auto machine changing to auto adjusting pressures is easy. There's just a little secret handshake that you need to know how to do to be able to get into the clinical area of the machine where you can change the modes.
You can go here and request the clinical/provider manual which explains that secret handshake which is just a matter of pushing a couple of buttons at the same time.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
Now they do have a shortened version of the secret handshake steps that you can read but I strongly urge everyone to go ahead and get the manual because there's some really useful material in the manual.
The secret handshake....works on all DreamStation machines.

Awesome. I really appreciate the response Pugsy and the great information. I spent most of last night trying to research this and it really seemed like there were secret rules of how this all works. At one point it felt like I'm just trying to make sure I could get the most relief for my sleep apnea and change a setting...not break into a bank.
