I need help on what to do please

Post by ImAPimp » Tue Dec 31, 2019 4:28 am

I was given a bipap machine but still having worsening breathing issues . When I get into even a light sleep I seem to stop breathing consistently. My brain just stops signaling I guess? I feel like it’s getting emergent. I wake up and feel worse than drunk from not breathing.

Bipap Machine doesn’t seem to help me. It’s a new dreamstation machine but don’t help me. I don’t know what to do. I think I worsened since I had 2 sleep studies earlier this year too

The machine needs to be set at the optimal pressures so that when you use it all night every night your breathing will be as perfect as it can be.

Many here use full-data machines that provide efficacy data that can help to verify the effectiveness of the therapy.

Use of software, such as OSCAR, can automate and simplify that verification and optimization process for any users who care about, and understand the importance of, prioritizing and optimizing their sleep-breathing.

Welcome! The experts here can help you understand what is going on and make changes to address it, but first they need more information from you. So download the free Oscar software from here:

https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

It works only on a laptop or desktop. There should be an SD card in your machine; if there isn't, go buy one and stick it in. Follow the instructions to import your data from the SD card to the Oscar software. Then take a screenshot of a Daily chart and post it here, after formatting things this way:

* Turn off the pie chart (in Preferences ... Appearance ... uncheck pie chart)

* Turn off the calendar (click on the little triangle to the left of the date)

* Stack your graphs like this:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leaks
Snores
Flow limitations.

You can grab the horizontal gray bar between graphs to squeeze them a little so those six will fit into one screenshot.

Sounds like a lot of work, but with luck it'll go quickly. If you hit a snag, let us know.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

It's sounds to me like you are having a medical emergency. You need to be in a situation where your vitals are being monitored, which probably means going to an ER. This site is a good place to get help using your CPAP device, but you need to get to a condition where you are not at immediate risk. Take your CPAP and so to an emergency room.

Your comment is ridiculous.

Emergency Departments are not set up to handle people's *SLEEP* problems.

Not breathing, and symptoms of hypoxia, are more than sleep issues.

For my sleep study I managed to stop breathing 27 times an hour and my Oxygen Saturation dropped to the low 80's(hypoxemia).
The medical term for this is Moderate Sleep Apnea.
I'm pretty sure there is no shortage of people with untreated Severe Sleep Apnea.
I'm also sure there is no shortage of Doctors that send patients home with a prescription for a Cpap/Apap/BiPap machine set to the factory defaults.

If one were awake when it was happening.

Your statement is ridiculous, and financially harmful. Deal with it.

Does this feeling happen only as you are falling asleep or does it seem to happen after you have been asleep for some time? What have your previous sleep studies shown (obstructive vs. central/complex apneas, and sats)? Any meds or other issues that have cropped up? The solution might very well depend on the precise nature of your sleep disorder.

In your shoes I would contact your doctor and update him/her. Be specific and persistent.
