Water for CPAP

Post by russellfarr64 » Wed Dec 25, 2019 5:40 am

Serving overseas. I can’t get distilled water where I am but the water here is reverse osmosis. Can I use reverse osmosis water for my cpap machine? Thank you. Russ

Yes.

You should always use potable water. Other than that, it's mostly just a matter of preventing mineral buildup on the metal plate that is the basic basis for recommendations about the nature of the water to use.

If you can't get distilled water, second choice is purified water (which is what "reverse osmosis" water is).

If you can't get that either, you can use any potable water (except carbonated, colored, or flavored). You should wash your tank frequently if there are any signs of deposits.

welcome to the zoo!

it's a matter of convenience to use distilled water. means less cleaning for me. my cheap nature in this case loses out to my lazy nature.

i'm told in UK that distilled water isn't even mentioned in the manual.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Hey, Zonker--if you happen to see the keeper go by, could you mention that my stall may need mucking out again? TIA.

You can use plain tap water, if the locals drink it.
Just de-scale the tank with a vinegar soak when you notice some mineral buildup.

Could have been the day that I was wondering where I was, too.

Last week I made the mistake of mentioning to a nurse what seemed like heartburn to me. Next thing I knew, her doc had convinced me to take a ride in the painted van with the flashing lights. Turned out it was nuthin' much (maybe some of my pleural thickening acting up?), but that was a bit of an adventure. I admit that ambulance ride in the back WAS on my bucket list; I just expected to experience it much later on toward the end of my leaky bucket list. ER doc (or technically, ED [emergency department] doc, but that just sounds wrong to me) was a real comedian. He sauntered into the room with his hands in his pocket, took a seat, leaned back, yawned, crossed his legs, and then turned his head toward me and asked, "So what can we do for you today," as if he was just bored by the whole medical thing that was keeping him from the important stuff in his life.

The next day after that, I reacted pretty badly to some allergy shots that made my eyes swell almost shut. Once I realized what was happening (What's that odd distracting object I see out of the corners of my eyes?--hey, IT'S MY FACE!), I chewed a benadryl then swallowed another one to stop the reaction. But that all messed me up for a few days. And, yes, now I know what biting into a battery must taste like.

Yeah, so, at least now I've got THAT going for me. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBWcRqPesws)

At this point, I'm hoping for some boredom in my life. Or maybe just the distraction of hijacking a thread or two now and then.

This is a self service zoo. You want a stall mucked out, muck it your self. And no, I did NOT say go muck your self.

Politeness? I believe that is in direct violation of S.O.P. on Internet forums. But I'll let you off with a simple warning this time.

I agree.
Most excitement comes from dischord.
We are pretty much better off without it.

Avoid tap water in under developed nations and if using it boil it first. If you wouldn’t drink it then don’t use it for cpap, mineral buildup is a minor concern compared to what some bacteria etc can do to you.

Order of preference

-Distilled water
-Purified water
-Other bottled water
-Boiled tap water
-Tap water
