Embarrassing but need help...

Post by Seanshineyouth » Tue Dec 24, 2019 8:38 am

Hi! I’ve recently had to replace my cpap and several components and it’s getting expensive. The cpap I have a prescription for isn’t even on the market anymore and so I’m having to buy older stuff which still breaks. This ultimately leads me to my point: I repaired my mask using hot glue... there isn’t any contact with nose pieces or the hose, however the hose and the mask piece arent made for each other... there is a small gap in the chamber between those pieces and there isn’t glue directly on it but there is some in the area. Its not heating up the glue, but I’ve heard mixed reports as to whether it’s toxic which is making me nervous now. I did order a replacement mask, but I’m trying to figure out if it’s unsafe for me to use this as a backup for the time being...

You can buy replacement parts for most masks on ebay, instead of having to buy a whole new mask. you can buy all the parts to assemble a mask on ebay, or on amazon, or, on any online retailer.

You don't need a prescription to buy parts for masks, just (strangely) when buying whole entire masks... that requires a rx...

Take a look and find yourself a new mask today, (or at least the part that broke.).

I’ll have to look tomorrow for that info, but the mask itself is of an older (inferior) design which is fused with a smaller tube, so when that smaller tube breaks that replacement part is essentially impossible to find. It feels like the mask is designed to need to be entirely replaced when it breaks. It’s far superior in airflow to the other masks I’ve tried but man it’s a bummer to try and fix.

Well, without knowing what mask it is, it certainly will be harder to find replacement parts.
Have you tried eBay?

Once the glue has cured, it will not be emitting any significant amounts of unhealthy VOCs*. You should have no concerns about this.

What's the embarrassing part?

*Volatile organic compounds

Not knowing it's easy to get replacement parts?

Thank you that’s very helpful information, I’m not sure what’s causing my sore throat then.

Mouthbreathing is one possibility.
