Horrible numbers with Nasal Pillows...

Post by joeljjk11 » Tue Dec 24, 2019 8:09 am

Has anyone experienced this? Last night my AHI was 14.8 - when I use the Airfit F20 FFM they are between 7-9 typically. Still horrible but better than 14.8. I have noticed this trend for a while now, whenever I use nasal pillows ( with P10 or the Nuance) my numbers are horrendous. I am using them because my beard is getting longer and the F20 makes noises and leaks in the middle of the night. I have no leakage at all with the nasal pillows so that would not be why my numbers are so bad. I also have no way to access Oscar or any software, I am wondering on people's experiences and if they have had similar things happen to them.

I just experimented with my mask a discovered a few things:

1) The nasal pillow size on the Nuance mask is was too small and I felt like I was not getting enough air, I changed it from a medium to a large.
2) The mask was way too tight when I looked in the mirror and I had the "pig nose", I loosened the straps quite a bit and turned on the machine and it was much more comfortable.

I am hoping these adjustments can help my numbers. We will see.

I have seen that the airtouch f20 works better with beards/facial hair.

Seems like anyone with a beard or mustache is going to have problems with most masks.

Have you happened to try the N20. It reminds me of the mask that the dentist uses for Novocain. I’ve got a full beard and totally agree with the memory foam full face mask not working well with it.

One thing I just learned was that Resmed does provide “sample” masks to sleep clinics. I just got the $100 P10 for free from my doc yesterday! Ya may try asking your doc for a sample of the N20. I did need to size up to a large.
