Height of CPAP above bed

Post by CLV62 » Tue Dec 17, 2019 5:35 pm

Hi,
I have to fit a shelf to our bed in our small campervan to take my cpap, as the bed is too small to put it next to the pillow.
I know the machine should be at same height as your head, but this wont be possible.
I have a Dreamstation Go with a BMC nasal pillow & pressure 8.
Is it ok to put the shelf 12 to 18 inches above the matress?

Yes, it will be fine to put it higher than the bed. Just make sure it can't fall off and clunk you on the noggin.
The old "machine lower than the bed" thing is more for giving condensation a place to drain to instead of running up your nose than anything else.

Lol, I thought it must have been that it effected pressure.
So it can go up quite high with no problems?

Yes, it can go quite high without it being a problem. As long as the hose will reach you it will be fine.

Height doesn't affect the machine itself at all. Either on the floor or 4 ft up over the bed as long as the hose reaches.

The worse thing that could happen (besides falling on your head) is if water forms in the hose it will run into your mask and annoy you.
Even water itself won't hurt anything but it will annoy you if it runs onto your face or you get a cold mist out the vent holes or the water makes a lot of racket and wakes you up....annoying but won't hurt you.

It can go anywhere the hose reaches your face.

Like Pugsy says, the 'lower than the bed' idea is so that condensation can run back into the humidifier... less of a concern these days with heated hoses being so easy to get.

Mine is above my head. The hose is long enough that it lays low on the bed behind my pillow. Condensation would collect there in the low part of the hose. The sound of condensation in the hose is annoying so I run the humidity on the lower side so I never get condensation. Just a little in the mask from exhaling. Take care.

Would like to add that I never use heat. So a lower humidity setting keeps the condensation down. This works well for me but It depends on the person and how much humidity you need.
